Damn anyone receive rejection emails yet?
@uwletmein I haven’t heard of any yet…but CC is a self-selective group, and if anyone was 100% sure they for sure didn’t get in, they may not want to be the first one to share. However, I hope they do, it may help ease some stress of people on here (i.e. me)
I clicked on https://sdb.admin.uw.edu/enroll/uwnetid/ and saw that I got in… But when you log onto your NetID there is still no decision. It says “you have been offered admission to the Seattle campus of the University of Washington for Autumn quarter 2017”
@crawdad12 well there’s your decision haha.
Plus my transcript has loaded
some students have already received rejection emails so if your portal doesn’t update it cannot indicate you might have been denied just calm down and check back tomorrow
@crawdad12 earlier in this thread, UW said that wasn’t necessarily the most reliable way to check, and that waiting for a legit decision in the portal is the only sure way to tell online. They also later said that the portal should be updated in the morning for situations like this.
I hate this so much this is my #1 school and I have probably refreshed the pages 100 times today. I wish I just knew
Ugh same I hate the wait. Tbh they should just upload decisions alphabetically I wouldn’t mind. I hate how it is random
It’s pretty frustrating when people with lower stats get admitted ( I know, stats aren’t everything but still)
@peachlemon ikr, someone with pretty much the EXACT same stats (and major) as me has already been accepted
Gotcha, thank you
general admission rate last year is 45% and pre-major is a competitiveness buffer for specific subjects like cs and business
Damn it seems like all my friends that are sure to get in already got in, but the ones that are below average haven’t received anything yet. Makes me nervous.
@peachlemon UW looks for how you think, how your past has made you the person you are, how you contribute to the community, etc. Stats are just numbers, but there’s a limit. Like they are not going to admit someone with a 2.7 GPA because it obviously indicates that person is not a hard worker. I got admitted and I’m not the smartest, but I work hard and I like to think I am empathetic and open minded. Your character trumps a high test score, and not everyone who has their transcript loaded has lower stats that you. Please be patient instead of being frustrated with those with lower stats than you. Good luck!
@peachlemon stats can be quite subjective. A 3.989896662 at one school could be a 3.5 at another. Some schools don’t weight (UW doesn’t care about W GPA, but not everyone knows this), some have harder classes. Some people come from more challenging situations that make a 3.6 just as impressive as a 3.9. Some have steep upward trends. Some schools calculate GPA differently
BTW, I was admitted in state with a family income that wouldn’t ever qualify me for any aid anywhere, and a 3.5 GPA. They aren’t playing any games favoring disadvantaged applicants. There probably isn’t any rhyme or reason to this, if you get admitted, great! If not, maybe they didn’t like your essays, or your extra curriculars, and maybe that was dumb of them, but the ‘lower stats people’ weren’t intrinsically less deserving of admissions.
Unrelated PSA to everyone:
can we please please get through these few weeks without accusing UW of having racial bias? Don’t ask admitees their race, it makes it sound like you think they didn’t deserve to get in. Affirmative action is illegal in WA state. If you thought the essay about diversity was a back door route to achieve the same affect, then you misconstrued the purpose.
@ck9817 Agree! I hate when people say that I only got in a school because I am Asian. My culture and ethnicity is a big part of me, but it isn’t all of me. I understand the frustration of not knowing if you got admitted, but to attack someone over something so trivial is so problematic. UW would not condone this type of behavior.
@mulan2017 someone actually said that? I’m pretty sure that being Asian is, if anything a disadvantage at some schools.
Whenever someone gets pissy about it, I kind of assume that attitude came off in the essay, and it was a factor in their decision.
I got the unofficial transcript my stats are
Major Computer Science
2.9 GPA
1240 SAT (old sat)
2 on the AP Calc
Always assume that everyone has some amazing underdog story, or that they have something the school really needs. One of those two things must be true, or they wouldn’t get in.
