The Pancake Pantry - it’s worth the wait!
Hey, anyone apply to Peabody? If so, where are you transferring from?
Does it mean anything if your admissions counselor changes? Mine did a few hours ago, and I feel a little uncomfortable given the fact that I’ve been interacting with the other one for all of this time. I emailed the first one yesterday morning and got an automated response that she will be out of the office for the next week, and now this…
Maybe that means we’ll find out within the week? Otherwise why would they change counselors so close to decision date?
Hey has any of your counselor replied at all. I sent my counselor an email in mid March and I never got a reply. Oh well.
Yeah, mine has replied!
Im from Texas so I love that Nashville really gets all 4 Seasons!
If your counselor does not respond get in touch with Jason McGrath he is the director of admissions he will put you in contact with your counselor.
@Donatello7654 Im from texas too Dallas. Is your counselor Ben?
Has anyone else’s admissions counselor changed?
@newbee18 Yes he is, and I’m from Dallas as well!
Hey guys. I have been pretty much stalking every single blog from the past 3 transfer years. Just as we all are, I am seeking admission as a Vandy undergraduate transfer. I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback. Based on the information below, do you think I have a chance? My concerns are the fact that I attend a community college, but I do have an A average. Another concern of mine is my age. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
I’m 30
Work full-time and go to school full-time
4.0 with 42 college credit hours
Currently attend a community college
Had three recommendations, two were professors and one was an attorney I work with that attended Vandy
@Jameson5 Since they have a Holistic review process, I think everything does not just come down to grades. Don’t get me wrong that will play a substantial role. However, its’ good that you have work experience and other things. Plus you have been out of high school for awhile (no offense) so they will focus mainly on your college work. Just make sure your essay is very informative of your situation.
Thanks @Donatello7654. I made sure to mention why I waited to go back to school. And you’re right about high school not being the focus, but unlike most of the folks on here that bodes well for me. I wasn’t exactly the strongest high school student… My admissions counselor waived my test scores from high school, because they are basically obsolete at this point. But, like I said in my essay, I know the value of an education now and I work incredibly hard to pour all of myself into school now.
Jameson5 , I have a similar situation. I’m community college student and about your age. I read some comments at vanderbilt website and a couple of people asked a percentage of admitted students from community colleges. The answer was “… The majority of our transfer students who are admitted are coming from a competitive 4 year university…” Does this mean that VU doesn’t accept a lot of students from community colleges or just not a lot of students apply from comm. colleges? What does everybody think?
Hey @angelok. I am glad to hear that I am not alone. I expressed my concern about this to the Associate Dean of my college, who wrote my transfer college report. I told her that based on their website, it sounded like Vandy didn’t really give much consideration to community college students. I asked her if she thought that they looked unfavorably upon this. She said that in her experience, she has attended conferences with all of the major ivys that hit on this issue exactly. She said that these schools are aware that we saw the benefit of saving some money and attending smaller institutions, which she wishes more students would do. I just didn’t want to be swimming in debt just from my undergrad, which makes total sense once it is explained. So, I think as long as we meet the initial criteria, then we have nothing to worry about. You are welcome to PM me to discuss further if you’d like.
Jameson5, what program did you apply? l think you should be in with your GPA and all efforts

Thanks for the reassurance @angelok! I applied for the College of Arts and Sciences for History. What about you? What state are you transferring from? To answer your question @newbee18, I chose Vandy because they have a very competitive History program that has focus classes in many areas of History that other universities didn’t. Plus, my law firm has an office in Nashville, so I will be able to stay at my firm and get a great education at the same time. I also plan to attend grad school at Vandy as well. What made you decide on Vandy?
