Official Vanderbilt ED1 Class of 2020 Discussion Thread

@collegebobollege I always thought that everyone on CC were guys haha

@lighght @collegebobollege

I assume that it’s high schoolers until people start saying “my D” and “my S” and I realize how many parents there are on here…

Hey guys.

I’m currently a first-year at Vandy after being accepted ED1, and let me just say I 100% totally understand how you guys are feeling.

It’s nerve wracking yet exciting for sure. If you guys have any questions or concerns, shoot me a message or reply in this thread. I’d love to help you guys out and hopefully see you on campus next year!

Anchor down!

@Pugs1798 technically yes, but historically they have come out earlier.

@CollegePanda96 how are you liking it?

@CollegePanda96 how manageable is Vandy CS?

My counselor got an email from Vandy, they said they were going to put me in front of the admissions committee and if there was any additional information about me she could let him know.
Does this mean they’re seriously considering me or that I’m on the edge? What sort of information could I send?

@ShadowDragon You’re most likely in. Your acceptance now hinges on how much your counselor sells you in her reply!

@ShadowDragon why would Vanderbilt tell your counselor that? I haven’t heard of anything like that happening before. (Don’t be nervous though; it sounds like a good sign!)

@ShadowDragon That’s really strange. Not to scare you, but I think that might mean your counselor’s original rec was lackluster (not negative about you, but maybe not very informative). I don’t think they’d just ask for extra information for your benefit, because that would provide you an unfair extra amount of information. I feel like their ask was to get the same amount of info for you as anyone else - and that’s a good thing! Of course, this is just my speculation, but I really doubt they’d ask for extra info just to give you a boost.

HI GUYS! I am so glad I found this thread. I am dying from anticipation/anxiety/excitement. Does anyone know if Vandy considers independent honors classes? My school doesn’t offer any AP classes so I dual enrolled in this honors program and have like 12 advanced honors, and managed to take an online AP class, but I am taking four AP’s this year, and one advanced honors, and a college class

@ShadowDragon I’ve read on Vandy’s admission blog that your sent to committee when one of the counselors reading your application wants to admit you and the other reading your application wants to deny you. From there they send you to committee and your assigned counselor try’s to get as much extra info as possible to convince the committee your worth being accepted. So I think the email is a great sign and it probably means you have already one over your counselor.

YALL IT’S ONLY ONE WEEK FROM DECISIONS DAY

@collegebobollege Vandy has surpassed my expectations. It’s truly amazing. I’m sure you’d love it here!

@mac2020 I’m actually a CS major, so I can give you some better insight: CS at Vandy is admittedly one of the more lacking departments. Not very strong, but that’s not to say the professors aren’t good. They really want you to succeed. That being said, there are many people that intern at big companies like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft (some even only after freshman/sophomore year!) CS is flexible in the way that there’s a lot you can do outside of the classroom to further your knowledge compared to other majors. I’ve actually heard that more people graduate with a CS degree than are admitted as a CS major, so a lot of people actually switch in to it during their time here. That should say something about the integrity of the deparment. If you have any specific questions about it, let me know!

@ShadowDragon be nice and kind to your counselor and send him/her some info that might help you get in (for example, I sent some pictures of my finished eagle scout project). I believe because I was so courteous and patient with my counselor, she fought for me where I couldn’t–in the committee stage. Just remember your counselor can be a very powerful/persuasive element of your application.

Hi! I’m new here
this is making me crazy nervous! D:
my GPA is a little on the low side (3.7W, UW not sure, but not much difference, only taken 3 AP classes before my senior year)
, but I have a 33 on my ACT, and I think the EC’s I have are pretty good in terms of variety and depth
I can’t wait anymore dangit! this is awful…

Hi! I have a 33 on ACT too and 3.7UW. Before my senior year I only took one AP cause my school doesn’t offer AP. But I dual enrolled in an honors program. I am so nervous too. It’s all so iffy.

right? The wait is awful, especially since it’s likely they’ve already looked at our applications and said yes or no…
I want to know dang it!

just gotta hope my 4 years of band and ROTC, and the collection of other stuff I’ve done EC wise can get me in, I like to think my EC’s kicked butt

I know…it’s like I feel like my stats are good enough but I have no clue if they actually are

guys there’s not much we can do, so might as well just hope for the best right!! we also gotta kick up our discussion thread, we are only at 16 pages we can do this!

Crazy to think that in a week we will (possibly) know our decisions… the closer we get, the more real it seems!
