@hopingtogo123 I know that Vanderbilt looks to increase their geographic diversity, but that doesn’t necessarily mean one will get accepted/rejected because of where they live. For the class of 2019, 17.8% came from the middle states, 19.5% from the midwest, 5% from the new england region, 22% from the south, 7.3% from the southwest, 9.5% from Tennessee, 10.6% from the west, and 8.2% international students. Hope this helps!
yes it does a lot! thank you! @waffledancerxox
I was told living far from Vanderbilt (West Coast, not CA) would be a plus for me, but living in an area near Vanderbilt or from where they get a lot of applicants shouldn’t affect you negatively
What made Vanderbilt “spark” for everyone? When did everyone get their “ah, I think I’m going to apply ED there” moment?
@collegebobollege interesting! Do you think the same concept applies for someone that is applying from the East Coast/New England area?
My visit. I was really debating between Vandy and Brown for ED but I visited in October and that clinched it. I’ve become even more sure of my decision since then.
@11countrymusic11 I don’t think so (unless it’s somewhere like New Hampshire or Vermont). My state is pretty minimally represented so that’s why I think it’s a benefit, most New England states are much better represented than my state is.
@collegebobollege I totally agree with you. I visited in October as well and it seems like the place for me. I guess you just get that feel, its natural. It is also a really cool feeling to know you feel very confident on the place.
Did anyone apply to public schools?? Unfortunately for me they all have a Nov 30/Dec 1 deadline so I had to submit additional apps
What really did it for me was when my state’s admissions counselor came to my high school and told us that most of the students wore Chacos when it was warm out…and that’s when I knew.
Honestly, my visit was a big deciding factor (even though I went when it was so cold that they had to close the school twice). For all of us, I’m sure we love Vandy so much that it’s hard to imagine going anywhere else, but we’ll all end up in the right place.
I first learned about Vandy after receiving some things in the mail from them. After doing lots of research, attending many seminars, and talking to different alumni, Vandy just seemed like the perfect fit!
@lighght I applied to UT Austin and qualified for automatic admission. I don’t intend on applying to any other public schools.
Interestingly, Vanderbilt sent me a ton of mail (like way more than any other school) all through my junior year, and that’s how I learned about it. Did that happen to anyone else?
Am I the only one who smiles when I think of Vanderbilt?
No. Definitely not. I can’t stop thinking about it

Last year the decisions came out a day or two early, so do you think we can expect the same?
@mkennedy16 that’s why everyone has been expecting the 11th, but we never really know
@collegebobollege thank you!
We talked a bit on here about the Ingram scholarship… anyone doing Chancellor’s or Cornelius Vanderbilt? Do they read the common app with those? I want to use the same essay I wrote for my extracurricular supplement for the chancellor’s scholarship(: thoughts?
I’m applying for CV! Was considering Ingram but didn’t want to bug people about recommendations.
