Being Asian actually helps when it comes to admissions at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt is trying really hard to get its Asian population to a similar percentage with those institutions of the same caliber such as Duke and Rice. Currently Vanderbilt is 8 percent Asian, 8 percent Hispanics and 7.6 percent African Americans. So in essence yes being Asian will not hurt you in any way. Geographic location helps as well, as only 3 percent of the students at Vandy come from the New England/ northeast area.

Is it worth it to send in a third instructors evaluation? I mean I’m sure it couldn’t hurt but I wouldn’t want it to come across as desperate. Thoughts?

I honestly do not think it will make much difference. On the one hand, they do specify two, so it might be better to just follow their instructions and send two. On the other hand, however, I have heard as a general rule of thumb that if you want to send in any additional instructor evaluations, one is fine but make sure you do not go overboard and send in multiple extras.

is any is sending midterms?? applying to be a sophomore … have less than stellar hs record but great college GPA so It helps its. how much will it trying desperately to get the fous off my hs gpa

yes they require midterms…mailed mine in on friday

I’m confused as to what we need to do with the secondary school report. It asks us to include the course title and level and all of that stuff, but for high school courses? I completely blanked and just assumed that we had to get a HS transcript sent, and didnt realize we had to get this additional form filled out. Help.

I am almost done filling out the Common App, but I have a quick question. Does anyone kno if Vandy will verify whether or not I am on probation? I had two minor alcohol offenses in the dorms first semester, so technically I am on Residential Life probation but not in trouble with the school besides that. If I say that I am not on probation, will they check?

anontransfer
I put N/A for courses and title on the secondary school report because I think it is referring to high school courses. Remember: that is the same form that first-year applicants fill out as well. I just filled out the basic info (name, address, etc.) and then gave it to my high school counselor.

Mike
I am sorry, I do not have an answer for you. I do not know whether or not they will check, nor do I know how seriously they would view two minor alcohol offenses.

How much do you think mid terms matter? I will send mine next week when they come out but we only took one test in my Organic class, and I had the flu so my grade is wimpy. :/

I don’t think mid term reports are required…

I called and the lady who I spoke to said if the midterm report isn’t on the transfer application checklist, it wasn’t needed.

One of my four professors had a family tragedy and won’t be back to class for another 3 weeks, not sure what to do about that so…

Two weeks y’all!

^ at first I thought you meant two weeks until we heard decisions and I got all excited, then I realized you meant until the deadline. My app has been in since January.

My bad! I’ve been anxiously awaiting the deadline for months now… But I guess we are all two weeks closer to getting decisions!

anxiety builds…looks like late 3rd week of april last year the 1st wave of people heard back w/acceptances so 17th-19th of next month at the earliest…going to be a long 5-6 weeks

I’m about to start my essay. I’m new to this thread but I have some questions. Is what was said before true for econ majors and is it really harder for econ majors to be accepted in? I don’t really want to but I’m willing to put math as my second choice if necessary.

Also, I’ve posted about this before but I figured I’ll ask for your input. Is a W on my transcript a huge negative? It was from my first semester (currently a second semester freshman), and it wasn’t due to a possibility of failing. I just didn’t like the course (an acting class) and I came into the school with a bunch of credits, so I didn’t think it would hurt me. Obviously, this was before I decided to apply to transfer. My GPA from last semester is a 3.8 and if I did well enough on my Math test last week, I’ll have straight A’s on my midterm reports.

EDIT: I figured I’d mention that although my high school work isn’t Vandy quality, my senior year grades were and that was also my most rigorous year. As for college EC’s, I’m a member of my dorm’s hall council and a member of the economics society.

Lets pump some life back into this thread. I notice that it is quieting considerably as the deadline approaches. Did anyone get an email confirming a complete application yet? I received one early last week…

Good luck to all of you applying! :)

@Beachlover
Did you decide for sure yet whether or not you will be applying?

Yeah, I got a confirmation email for a complete application too. Getting nervous!
