Official visit

How should the statement “we are currently full with official visits, I will make sure to let you know if things change on our end” be interpreted?
This is to a Div I -Ivy.
Thanks in advance.

I would expect that to mean that they have their full allotment of official visits already scheduled, but that they would let you know if there was a cancellation and they wanted to offer it to you.

Is it late in your sport’s recruiting cycle?

I think you need to be looking at what other opportunities you have beside the school that told you this. It doesn’t look very promising in my opinion. Things can change so don’t give up hope, but be exploring all your possibilities.

Thanks Alipac and lubbub.
The sport is crew.

I agree you should look to other opportunities but don’t write the school off entirely.
What is the previous level of contact thus far? Any phone conversations, academic pre-reads, requests for stats?

They requested a pre-read package. We sent school profile, transcript, extracurriculars, rowing info. We’re coming out for Head of the Charles and we were hoping to make visit(s) then (ie afterwards).
We’ll continue to cultivate other coach contacts but not close door on this school just yet. It may be that my D is a possible candidate down the road, just not an important one for this school at this early stage.

I would let them know you’ll be in the area and will be visiting the campus, taking a tour, etc. Some might invite you to stop by on an unofficial visit

I agree with twoinanddone!
Let them know you will be there for HOTC. They may be busy with their own team but you could at least get a face to face meeting and some time to present yourself.
Just keep that communication going. Soon the first top tier of recruits have to decide, freeing up potential slots. It’s a good sign that they asked for academic pre-read. Just keep at it.
Good luck
btw-is this men/women/HW?
some programs are more competitive than others…

Thanks twoinanddone and tonymom!
This is Women’s HW.
We will let them know that we’ll be stopping by for an initial visit and see if we can meet with someone.

Sorry to sound negative, but from what we’ve seen so far of the rowing recruiting process, that message means that they have already sent likely letters to their “A” list of recruits, and you only have a chance if one of the rowers on that list decides to go somewhere else. If that happens, the school may be very interested. However if that does not happen, your chances are zero. Sorry.

Thanks wykehamist. I’m guessing it is as you say. Other good D1 prospects emerging…fingers crossed.
However, we may still make a visit. Coach said to give a call when we’re there.

Foamfollower@ don’t give up! My rower son ended up committing to an Ivy he hadn’t considered till late in the game. Collegiate rowing recruiting is a game of musical chairs and someone may put you back in that game. The players change constantly. Just keep good channels of communication with schools of interest and focus on your erg score.
Good luck!
