Interesting. I actually sent my counselor a couple of things last Thursday as well, and got an instant reply (I sent them very late in the evening and got a reply the next morning, if I recall correctly).

My advice is to maybe email your RC again, politely asking if your last email was received.

Yeah I received extremely prompt responses, but this was 2 weeks ago. Not sure what changed between then and now.

I dont really want to email him again, at the risk of seeming annoying. I’m pretty pessimistic about this whole thing anyways, so I figure I’d just let this one slide. I don’t see how an email like that could get lost, so I’m pretty sure he read it.

@Ghost: Reed is indeed an awesome school. I was waitlisted there too. But, unfortunately, I recently heard from the senior assistant dean (my admission counselor) that Reed is not going to the waitlist this year, at least for now. Yet, the situation might change and the faintest of hope still remains!

The waitlist is a complicated place, with many moving parts; much the same as an admissions committee.

We are continuing to work to shape the class, and that means that, due to no fault of your own, any further demonstration of interest will have little sway in terms of who we can offer admission.

If you’ve accepted your place on the waitlist, and sent your AO at least one email, trust that we are acutely aware you wish to attend.

Should any spots open up, we will contact you (usually via phone), but at this point you should continue making plans to attend the institution at which you’ve deposited.

Sorry for any confusion, and enjoy the remainder of your high school career!

Occasionally, spaces will open up as students inform us of other plans (e.g. a gap year).

However, we cannot predict if and when this will happen. It is safe to assume that if you have not already been contacted, it is unlikely we have room on the waiting list.

Thanks for answering our (slightly hysterical) questions! Really, it’s good to know exactly what’s going on and I at least appreciate your response, even though it’s not what we were hoping for.

@masterclass, thank you for the kind words! I wish you good luck with the Reed waitlist!

I guess then Chicago will be processing my transfer applications for the next two years and if that doesn’t work my grad school applications until I get in. Yes, until I get in.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I have accepted an offer off of the waitlist, but have chosen to defer to Fall of 2012 and take a gap year; so, my spot it still open. Keep in mind that I’m not the only one who would do such a thing, as the representative from UChicago stated.

Does Uchicago notify you if you were rejected or do they just never contact you again? I emailed my AO and he replied one time but never replied to my other email. is there any hope left?
