did u do anything for the optional essay/grade portion of the waitlist offer?

Hi,

After you accepted a position on the wait list, did your decision letter change at all or indicate that you had accepted? My daughter accepted a position on the wait list, but her decision letter/UC Decision Portal never changed and there is no indication that she actually accepted the wait list. All that is up is her original decision letter and now I am wondering if UCLA ever even got her submission.

Any information would be much appreciated!

when you opt in to the waitlist a new box appears under the original decision letter that says

Yes, I accept the Waitlist Option for UCLA. I understand that this is not a guarantee of an offer of admission, but rather an opportunity to be considered for admission if space permits for additional Fall Quarter 2012 applicants after May 1.

with the optional info you put in. After May 1 they also added a note:

** Note: Not all decisions have been made for students on the waitlist. **

Decisions will be made on a rolling basis throughout the month of May and will be posted here on our decision site. Please continue to check back. An email will also be sent to notify you once a decision has been made.

I just looked at a copy of my son’s decision letter right after he modified his waitlist option for the final time (on 4/13). The area below the letter did change to read “yes, I accept the waitlist option for UCLA…” with a big green checkmark. Following that was the first part of his optional info/mini-statement. HOWEVER, when he first opted in to the waitlist right after the initial decision came out (when he hadn’t included any optional info yet), the area beneath letter showed that he had opted in, but it didn’t show a green checkmark beside the “Yes, I accept the waitlist.” At that time he didn’t click “Submit” at the bottom of the page because he hadn’t written anything in the optional area. I’m wondering if clicking the submit button made a difference. Did your daughter write anything in the optional information box?

My son was accepted off the waitlist last Friday but after visiting UCSB at their admitted students’ Open House (which was after he submitted his final opt in to the UCLA waitlist), he fell in love with UCSB’s campus and the rest is history…he will be a Gaucho next year.

Initially, I was somewhat disappointed because I’m a UCLA alum and he has wanted to go to UCLA for years. But when we visited UCLA this past Saturday (for Alumni Day) and we were able to take Campus and Dorm tours, I knew he had made the decision that was right for HIM (because it’s his decision and definitely not about what I would see myself doing)!

Anyway, if anyone else is curious, his stats are: Wgpa: 4.25, ACT 34, Math (Level 2) SAT II: 800, Chemistry: 740, US History: 730. He also took 11 AP classes and 1 (UC approved) honors class.

Good luck to all those still waiting to hear…I hope one of you gets his spot!

Has nobody been taken off waitlist since last Friday?

I feel like the removal of students off the waitlist has come to a standstill…maybe they’ve already filled up all the spots and so quickly? …I don’t want to think that way D:

My D got accepted yesterday morning (5/8) via e-mail. She is very happy. Good Luck, hopefully you will hear soon.

Two of my friends were accepted off the waitlist recently. One found out last week, on Thursday I believe, and is in for Biochem. The other found out yesterday morning and is pre-Econ.
I’m still waiting for a decision, and my major is Computer Engineering/Computer Science. Has anyone in either of those majors received a decision?

Phew, I thought they stopped accepting people…

Ah I’m so nervous…!

Does the major matter with the accpetance?

As far as I can tell, it’s either rolling (by when you submitted) or by major, since the two had different majors and nobody from my school applying to engineering has heard back.
Also, they were given 2 days to SIR- both did it immediately.
Based on what I’ve heard, it looks like anyone who gets an email is accepted.

how many are on the waitlist?

i think there are about 2900 on the waitlist, but i know several of my friends who got accepted off of the waitlist and have decided not to go to ucla.
I’m also comp sci/engineering, maybe ucla already has enough engineering students…

Did anyone have his or her major as undecided? One of my friends who is also waitlisted is wondering that and now that @FattestChicken said that they could be rolling by major, I’m guessing students with undecided majors will be decided last, if they are doing it that way.

Congratulations awlee1956!

Could you please post her stats weighted GPA, SAT, any EC’s…

Man, I don’t think engineering majors have that much of a chance, unfortunately (I’m an engineering major).

Stat’s for my D:
Major - English
Wgt GPA ~ 4.20
SAT - 2060
Class President
4 Years Varistiy VolleyBall (+ club VB)
3 Years Varistiy Soccer (+club Soccer)
12 Years Girl Scott
Lots of Volunteer Hours

I talked to the admissions people a few weeks ago… 5400 were accepted from 90000 applicants and 5000 were put on the waitlist. i’m in the same boat as you guys. just waiting still. 4.2 and 2030, lots of ECs. eeeekkkk

@sarcsoccersar

Are you sure only 5400 were accepted? I was thinking it was around 10,000 like every year.
And that roughly 2900 were waitlisted.

I heard today that another student from my school was accepted off the waitlist for Computer Engineering on Monday, but he turned the offer down.

Well I talked to an admin officer at ucla, and that’s what they said… so yeah. I’m sure haha whether or not she was misinformed is another question.
