Rice waitlisted me, but I don’t mind seeing as I got into my top choice (UChicago)… But I didn’t put very much effort into the application to begin with, so I’m surprised that I was even waitlisted. I probably won’t put myself onto the waitlist, because I wouldn’t go if they chose me. I wish everyone the best of luck!

I got waitlisted but I am not going to take a spot on the list. I have other options and I definitely don’t want to hurt someone else’s chances if they are also on the waiting list and are much more into Rice than I am.

For those of you waiting it out, good luck!

Thanks to all waitlisted people who are going to give their option for the more serious ones. Its a great gesture.

@KevRus My interview was in the Business Center of the townhomes I live in (my comfort zone totally), on a weekday, 8-11.30 pm. She drove up and was really nice. We had a great time discussing life’s hopes and aspirations ( amongst other things). I hope RICE gives her evaluation due weightage whilst reviewing my W/L

ugh i just hate waitlists. I was also waitlisted at MIT but got into WUSTL and i got a likely letter from Cornell…

@Abetterlife

Sounds like a great interview! I was just teasing you. :P

And remember everyone, you can update your waitlist decision (Yes or No) at any time, so feel free to update it to “No” if you hear from more colleges in the next week. Or just wait until then.

Anyone not going to take the spot? I don’t think I am…

any idea how we can express genuine interest through an email? I really want to go to Rice b/c of its focus on nanotech! : /

I already took it. Who knows what will happen though.

yeah thank you to everyone who is not going to be on the wait list. it really means a lot to the people who really want to go there! =)

admissions this week have kind of been a slaughter… i really only have my safeties left! and ucsd…

i was waitlisted at rice and emory, 2 of my top 3 schools. my other top school was duke which comes out tomorrow… i’ll probably get waitlisted there too hahaha

if i get in there though i won’t take a spot… otherwise i’m taking a spot on all the waitlists and accepting admission at ucsd… pretty sure

got waitlisted from Rice and WUSTL… ARG!

at least i got a full ride at the state school w/ a strong science department and honors program

UGH. I was waitlisted at Wash U and now Rice (which was my #1!) I got into Emory but was still hoping for Rice… boohoohoo.

Add us to the list. :)

Ds was also waitlisted. A college counselor we saw over the summer thought Rice would be harder to get into than Stanford from our area and we were skeptical. But its looks like we’re in such amazing company on the WL that its hard to feel too bad about it (other than the fact that it looks like he won’t be able to go to Rice…). I guess there were just a huge number of really strong applicants.

I got waitlisted as well
unfortunately i opted to simply forward my Questbridge application instead of submitting Common App
i am really regretting it now
my essays were weak and it did not have all my accomplishments.

My son was also waitlisted. He was definitely disappointed. He’s been accepted to Wash U., Amherst, and 7 other schools. Full-tuition scholarship to one.

For those of you who are dismayed at being Waitlisted to a few schools, just remember it could always be worse.

For example, I am waitlisted at 6 schools…
Emory
Rice
WUSTL
University of Chicago
Middlebury College
University of Virginia

The only acceptance I have so far is the insanely expensive/bad financial aid, University of California, Berkeley (I’m Out Of State)

I was waitlisted, but now I’m very confused. I have a scholarship to my safety school that has to be accepted by April 16. So, if I choose to remain on the waitlist… Is it possible to receive an acceptance from Rice by April 16 or do they release waitlisted decisions all on one day?

It’s very confusing, but I guess I’m asking if they will “fill in the gaps” along the way or release the news all at once.

Also, if I choose to accept my place on the list, but accept admissions from my safety school on April 16, what will happen?

Mogrimoogle - you accept the scholarship and spot at your safety school now. If you get in off the waitlist and choose to attend Rice, then you withdraw your acceptance from your safety. That’s the way its done, and it is allowed.
Waitlists are unpredictable- some years Rice has taken 100 or so off the list; some years none. It depends on how many kids accept a spot in the Rice class of 2014, and Rice won’t know until May 1st how many commitments they have. And with kids applying to so many schools nowdays - and the economy in the pits - it’s hard to tell what the yield will be. Rice may take some targeted kids off the waitlist before May 1st (some programs are very small and accept a precise number of students - like architecture and the music conservatory.) I’m wishing “good luck” to those of you who accept a place on the waitlist. :)

Rice will not release the decisions before May 1. They will most likely begin around May 4 if they decide to take any waitlists.

So I would take the scholarship at your safety school. Then if you get accepted off the waitlist later you can leave your safety school and go to Rice.

Unless accepting the scholarship is a binding admissions decision, just take the scholarship and hope Rice takes you off the waitlist.
