Reading this over, it sounds really braggy. I’m so sorry, that wasn’t my intent! I wish I could edit it but it won’t let me. sorry guys, I feel like a huge jerk. Just got really carried away with the excitement, sorry.

Essays: My common app essay is possibly the love of my life, my current AP lit teacher (who is also an English professor at NYU) raves about it any chance she gets. y advice for the commonapp essay is to choose any experience or moment that truly allows you to write your heart out! I really enjoyed writing my Why Wellesley supplement, and though applicants should follow the directions to write 2 paragraphs, there’s still room for personality and flexibility.

Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted to Northeastern (University Scholar full-tuition), deferred Brown ED. Waiting on Tufts, Williams, JHU, Brown RD, HYP, Vassar, BU, and Dartmouth.
General Comments: Congrats to everyone else who received a likely, I hope to see you at the welcome event in April! To everyone who received a possible: from being deferred from Brown I know it isn’t a fun time, but hang in there – you’re undoubtedly an amazing person and applicant nonetheless. Sending good vibes!
@travelinspace I didn’t get that vibe at all. I can just tell you’re excited and there’s nothing wrong about that! My friend was also at Olin’s candidates weekend (he passed the prelims as well). Were you there?

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.): local Math/Physics Olympiad golds. AMC12/AIME combined score was few marks away from USAMO, though not like I am allowed to participate…
Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): None that I can think of…
Subjective: Gonna make this very brief because people from my region will be able to identify me easily with more info … also, this part is definitely not what got me in.
Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description): Music related groups (guitar 9-10, jazz 11-12), Math Club (9-12). NO leadership position throughout.
Job/Work Experience: nope
Volunteer/Community Service: Library volunteer. Flag day volunteer. Also taught math/physics.
Summer Experience: Did a individual math research with a local university prof… Used the project in science and engineering fair and didn’t win anything.
Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):
Essays:
CommonApp main: 9/10 I quite liked it. Wrote about teaching Math, about how I used to be very quiet due to various reasons and then how the teaching experience changed me. The language style was something new I tried and I liked it a lot because I felt the geekiness in me expressed, though I am really not an expert writer and my writing may seem immature…
Wellesley 100: 9/10 One of the best supplements I wrote. The question was really quite flexible among the supplements I wrote… I picked one specific (Invented language class) and one general point (Sisterhood).
Teacher Recommendations in general: I do not know anything about what my teachers wrote. I’m very quiet in class (AND after class) so the teachers generally don’t know me well. They definitely don’t LOVE/ADORE/… me. But I feel that I did give my teachers a somewhat good impression and they do wish to help me in the applications. 6-8/10?

School Type: Public

Gender: F
Income Bracket Range: Quite poor for getting a US undergrad education…
Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athlete, development): Used to study in China (not international schools), effectively bilingual. Maybe?
Reflection
Strengths: Maybe showed passion and ‘fit’ for Wellesley. Passion in STEM (OK mostly Mathematics), supported by Olympiad results, courses I took and volunteer work (esp shows in the main essay)…
Weaknesses: limited extracurriculars (…nonexistent compared to many above, moderate in my region). 0 leadership positions. Very quiet --> teachers are not familiar with me… SATI, specifically CR, is not great compared to my peers (esp. classmates D:).
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: guess I am slightly (maybe quite?) different from the majority applying to Wellesley: international student, Chinese, strong STEM inclination, and not applying for FA. None of these factors in itself makes me the minority, but the intersection does. Also honestly, my high school is prestigious (sends many students to US each year), and I did quite well academically in the school.
What would you have done differently?: Maybe, I should have applied for FA…
Where else did you apply?: NU, CMU, Yale, Amherst (ED deferred), Caltech, Harvey Mudd, Grinnell, UK: Oxford+Imperial+Warwick (got conditional offers).
**Other Factors: ** Can’t think of any.
General Comments & Advice:
First piece of good news from the US side :D.
For those applying, here are some things which I tried doing in my app and which you can consider doing… Emphasize your strength and uniqueness… Try to give the Adcom a reason to admit you after reading your application. And don’t be afraid to write about your weakness (I did in my main essay).
@K1Helen Yeah, I’m so excited!!! Wellesley is one of my top choices and it felt like a HUGE weight was lifted off my shoulders to get a likely decision!
I’m actually going to Olin this weekend! They offer 3 weekends, and assign you to one of them. I hope your friend had a good time, I’m really looking forward to it. It’s honestly only about a mile away from Wellesley too, so I’m hoping to stop by!

Essays: common app: 7 or 8/10 I spent a lot of time on it and thought it was unique, but a few people told me it didn’t tell enough about me.

Wellesley is my first choice, so I’m really happy I got a likely! Honestly, I’m very surprised and was expecting a possible or unlikely. I feel very average compared to the rest of you! I think a main reason I got a likely was the passion I demonstrated for Wellesley in my essays and interviews.
@travelinspace Same!
My friend did have a fun time. He said that they were divided into groups and assigned a task of getting a ball over a ledge using just basic office supplies. Then he said that the groups were given discussion questions and each student had to lead the discussion while some of the admission officers watched. At the end, they chose one topic and presented it to the other groups. I never heard of another college having a process like that, but it sounded so cool. It also seems like the admissions group is able to see what kind of person more personally than just looking at the application.

My daughter got the result of early evaluation, and it is ‘Possible’.

Teacher Recommendation #1: Bio teacher, had me for Jr and Senior. I know this was glowing he practically told me.
Teacher Recommendation #2: US History Teacher, this one was spectacular. We met before he wrote the rec to talk about who I am and what I want for my future. He also let me read it before the final draft

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have no idea. I actually love all girls schools but wasn’t particularly interested in Wellesley because of its close proximity to my hometown. My mother really pushed me to visit campus as much as I did which ultimately made me apply. That being said I’m really glad I did.
What would you have done differently?: Nothing, throughout my application process I strove to portray myself in the most honest was possible. I wanted colleges to see who I really am and accept me because they liked who I am and who I want o be.
Where else did you apply? A lot of other schools, 14 total. I’ve been accepted into all of the ones i’ve heard from so far.
General Comments & Advice: Don’t apply to a lot of schools unless your willing to put the time and effort into the applications. Vary your list with matches, reaches and safeties.
Honesty is the best policy!
I am proof that an unusual circumstance that has affected your high school career will not destroy your chances at greats schools.

-Essays: My common essay was about my family situation, which is a bit strained. I don’t think it’s extraordinary, but it’s okay. 7-8/10 probably.
I spent so much time on my Wellesley supplement because I just couldn’t put into words how much I loved Wellesley. Eventually, I ended up crafting an entirely new essay the night it was due about Angela Carpenter’s foreign language class (it’s the coolest thing ever, basically) & Kristina Bracero and Kellen Kartub (the kind of friendship I’d love to have at Wellesley. I think this is the best supplement I’ve written. 9-10/10
-Teacher Recommendation #1: Spanish Teacher–she’s literally the best human being in the world & has done so much for me throughout the college search process. She helped me get the writing club started and has a masters in writing so undoubted crafted an amazing recommendation. 10/10
-Teacher Recommendation #2: Chemistry Teacher–we aren’t the closest people in the world, but I feel comfortable around her & we’ve shared jokes about moles (Avogadro’s number, anyone?). I wanted to have a recommendation from a science teacher 7/10 (?)
-Counselor Rec: I have no idea. My counselor isn’t always the most reliable, but I am pleasant as can be to her & she’s nice to me. I don’t think this one would be too bad. 6-7/10 (?)

-What would you have done differently?: Actually studied for the ACT. I would definitely have a better score haha. If I could have taken the SAT without it conflicting with theatre performances, I would have. Submitted an arts supplement, possibly.

General Comments & Advice:
Congratulations to all the other Likely applicants! You’ve done so well. To those who did not receive Likely, still, you’ve come so so far! And you’ve done great!
Advice to aspiring Wendys–be yourself & make sure you show Wellesley you love them. Don’t aim to be “what every college wants” or even “what Wellesley wants”. Aim to be your awesome self and showcase who you are!
@lookatbada
You don’t have to send anything, but if you’ve gotten some news or an award or a new extracurricular that you think could help, it won’t hurt to send it in. Getting a possible is like getting deferred, so think of things you’d send to a college in that way. Also, if you haven’t shown Wellesley that you’re interested, now might be a good time. Don’t go overboard trying to find something to send if you don’t have anything, because it’s fine. If you have something of note, however, don’t be afraid to send it Wellesley’s way!
I’m not into the score sharing because I don’t want any competition but I know these from past years helped me so I am just going to say that I go to a school that doesn’t offer APs and doesn’t weight honors classes (so my GPA is lower than the average accepted GPA) and my test scores aren’t as high as any of you talented people. But I demonstrated a real passion for Wellesley and put a lot of effort into my networking and my essays (the things that I could control) and got a likely! Wellesley seems to be really good at the holistic viewing of applications and I’m so honored and proud to have gotten a likely.
@K1Helen This is ridiculously late, but I just got back from my trip! The weekend was a lot like your friend said (but there were a lot more things, I’ll tell you after this weekend when we’re supposed to talk about it!) and I had such a fun time!!! I managed to do a drive-through tour of Wellesley on the way to the airport too, and let me just tell you, it is BEAUTIFUL in the snow. I thought it was great in the summer, but it’s almost prettier in snow. Also, Wellesley has a steep hill near the dining hall (?) and apparently it’s famous in the area for being a great sledding location!
@travelinspace Haha no worries! Wellesley’s campus is probably one of my favorites because it’s so beautiful. The snow is great too (although as someone who’s grown up in MA my entire life, it can become too much). That hill would be so fun to sled down though!

Strengths: My stats and accomplishments are fairly solid.
Weaknesses: Whatever that was not in my control. Recs, maybe. CA style, maybe. Who knows~

I wish everyone the best of luck in the upcoming weeks as more decisions come out!
Does anyone know the possibility of two students being accepted from the same school?
