Hey guys! I can’t wait to get to know you all
Hey y’all! Anyone know any resources to find out more about Williams? Or (ideally) a current student/alumnus?
The Williams YouTube channel has some really good videos. I’ve been watching a bunch.
Anybody able to arrive on April 12? We should meet up and explore Williamstown together so that we’ll actually know some people at Previews!
@calliemoon11 are you going to be there for the dinner on the 12th?
@calliemoon11 I think I remember you from the Harvard EA thread, right? So excited we got into Williams!
@calliemoon11 Thanks for creating the thread. I don’t have a Facebook, but I’d like to know some of you before the Previews! I can’t wait to see you all!! #Williams2019
@calliemoon11 @baregrylls I’ll be there from the dinner on the 12th! Hope to see you both!
I haven’t committed to Williams, so I haven’t joined the FB group, though. (The description demands that I’ve made up my mind or so it seems)
Congrats to those who got in. I was accepted last year but went on a gap year and deferred enrollment, so I’ll be in the class of 2019. I went to Previews last year and can tell you it’s a lot of fun! (Unfortunately I don’t think I get to go twice though, haha). Really excited to go to Williams after a hectic year
I’m an international student so unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to go to the Previews. So @Marzipanic could you write a bit more about what it was like? I feel like almost everyone will be there, will I be missing something really important?
Hey @ANerdfighter!
Lots of what Previews was about was getting a feel for the college and seeing if it’s the choice you want to make personally. As a “pre-frosh,” you shadow a current Williams freshman, spend the night in their Entry, and get to participate in planned events (a concert, a look at clubs on display, a late-night hike, etc.) with other students who were admitted and are deciding if Williams is where they want to spend the next 4 years. (This doesn’t mean you’re missing out on meeting all your future classmates: I met students who had gotten into other schools and were visiting Williams even though they were 99% sure they were going somewhere else. I also met a lot who knew before Previews that Williams was the place for them.)
Previews isn’t all rigidly scheduled: You also have the chance to go on campus tours, participate in certain seminars, or sit-in on classes to see what the teaching styles are like. I liked just having a late-night snack/dinner in Paresky with the freshman I was shadowing and some of her Entry–I got to ask questions about the school but also see the more casual, “lived-in” side.
Yes, there is the chance to meet with your financial aid officer in person and sit-in on classes. But the college has already given you the most important, factual information, and it’s too early in the decision-making process for Previews to be about the future class bonding before college starts. I think Previews is about making the college more personable in the hopes that, if you’re deciding between two or not already hooked, you fall in love with Williams while you’re there.
Sorry for the long explanation! I hope this helps!!
@Marzipanic Thanks! I’m on a few waitlists, but apart from that I’m pretty sure I’m going to Williams next year. Pretty much my only concern is that I’ve always lived in a huge city, so the rural location might be an adjustment)
Think about it as the opportunity of your lifetime to live in a very different kind of place that is close to perfect for what it is.
I’ll be there for the dinner on the 12th! Anyone know if there are forms that I need to fill out? I assumed that there would be, but I haven’t found any.
I believe that they will send the information about it to you on the ninth.
@Shinpachi thanks!
is anyone flying in from California Saturday night???
