i hope germany wins!!! they totally deserve it!
Uruguay winning would make me super happy too!

So for the people here who so strongly claimed that anybody would’ve done what Suarez did: what do you say now? Turns out that not everyone’s a cheater. Major props to Paraguay for playing an honest game.

Paraguay, that was not a favorite, gave Spain (definitely a favorite) a hard time, while Argentina, a biiiig favorite lost by 4x0…

True, but their counter-attacking has been lethal. And given Spain’s ability to dominate the ball, the first goal in the next match will be absolutely critical.

I think Germany will win the next match. They have tons of quality players and a very objective and efficient style…

^I agree. One Villa is not enough.

Besides, the game was dramatic, especially the alternating miss out on PK. The first denied goal was controversial though since not everybody believed that it was offside. FIFA, are you really too poor to afford video cameras?

This is really late, but LOL BRAZIL.

What an embarrassment to himself and to his people he is!

Germany has really cruised through the tournament with style. A 4-0 win against Argentina? Serves their coach right tbh :p

that paraguay goal was not offside. if #7 touched it, it was. He didn’t. #18 did, who was onside.

^It doesn’t really matter if he touched it, only if he influenced the play. That’s obviously a judgment call, and given that he drew defenders and made a play at the ball it would seem to be a fair judgment.

Felt like argentina didn’t have the right formation for Germany. It wasn’t the team that was bad (I think argentina is better) but simply the strategy/formation.

^Their defense isn’t that great.

They tend to compensate for their faults by scoring goals utilizing their forwards. However, seeing as how Germany has a stable defense and a sufficient offense, Argentina inevitably lost.

Argentina plays without tactics. Like sandlot soccer. Their natural talent could only get them so far.

^I agree. I wouldn’t say that they don’t have tactics, but they may have bet too much on their talent. On the other hand, I’d say that Germany is more organized

So my predictions:

Netherlands-Uruguay: 3-1 for Netherlands
Germany-Spain: 2-0 for Germany

Anyone think that Paraguay-Spain game was reffed poorly?

The whole double penalty sequence was kind of screwy, but I don’t think either side gained any real advantage from it.

Technically (this is extremely technically), Spain got the advantage… because Paraguay should have gotten another penalty kick because Spanish players were inside the marked area before the penalty shot was taken. By the exact rules of the book, that is illegal and another penalty should have been awarded.

Right, but that’s a rare call and it had no influence on the penalty or the play afterward. They only gained an advantage to the extent that they weren’t penalized for violating a technicality.

On the other side you could maybe argue that the players racing into the box distracted the GK, but there should have been a third attempt after the clear foul on Fabregas. But given the racing into the box on Paraguay’s penalty they didn’t necessarily have grounds to complain.

Actually it might be more accurate to say that you could make fair arguments on each side.
