Please do not misunderstand. My son is an international student and I am afraid that our (husband and I) english is not good enough to give him good suggestions on his essays which seems to be so important according to this forum.

^ geez you (eequalsmccubed) got deferred? >< i'm hopeless now :(

i'm hearing from many sources that Yale was extra conservative with their EA decisions this year. Maybe that means they'll take more in the RD round? Wishful thinking :)

The percentage of applicants taken this year SCEA was statistically identical to the previous year (17.7% vs. 17.8%).

The percentage of people admitted SCEA is virtually the same, but I heard the new Brenzel policy is to admit 'types' first, and then by merit during RD. So who they need as far as URMs etc. were taken early. Maybe this puts us on more equal footing for April...we'll have to wait and see.

I don't know where you heard that from, but my personal and very anecdotal experience (I know 5 kids personally, so keep in mind the negligble statistical value of it) is that they've admitted some very bright well-rounded kids so far. 5/5 that I know personally are not 'types'. I doubt that they're filling up URMs first, as that would be counterproductive to increasing diversity (or at least minority representation), which is the intended goal of any affirmative action policy.
