Oglethorpe Scholarship Weekend?

Hello!

I just got an invitation in the mail today with an invitation to scholarship weekend in January at Oglethorpe. I was just wondering if anyone here has been to the event or knows someone who has attended, and did you like it? I'm really nervous about it because I really hope I get the JEO Scholarship (fingers crossed). Is there any advice you guys could give me?

Thanks a bunch!

I am a parent. My daughter also has been invited to scholarship weekend, so she hasn’t been yet. We have visited the campus. Are you from Atlanta?

Yeah, I’m from the Northern suburbs around Kennesaw.

Have you visited the college yet?

Sounds like they just want to get to know you better - see how well you interact with others in a classroom setting (do you actively participate in discussion, etc…) They are supposed to send you some reading to prepare. I would definately read that and really give the issue some thought so that you can participate well in the group setting and write a decent essay on the topic. For your interview, dress appropriately, smile and be enthusiastic about what you can bring to the college (how you will contribute - clubs you are interested in, etc…).

My daughter and I went two years ago. Everybody at Oglethorpe is very nice and it is a good opportunity to see the school. The school is small enough where you actually meet and talk with the president, the provost and the head of admissions. The students did attend a class, write an essay and are interviewed. As parents, we went to the Carter Center, took a bus tour around Atlanta, then we were reunited with our children at Turner Field for a nice dinner. It was a very pleasant weekend.
