I'm thinking about Northwestern, Wash U in St. Louis, UMich Ann Arbor, Yale, Duke, UC Berk, Stanford, U of I in Champaign, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, U Penn...
what do you think?

I hope this makes sense:

-Barely volunteer, when I do its through key club and student council and such
-tennis 4 years, all varsity (captain 12) #1 Singles, 12. Won Harlem Invite (only 6 teams)

-Between my fresh/soph years, I took a class at Northwestern University through the CTD program. I got an A.
-This past summer took Modern Political Thought at NW through the CTD program and got a B+.
-PSAT=198
-4.0/4.05 GPA
-1st in class of 230
-6 APs
-ACT 32 9 on writing
-ACT 33 without writing

Sounds like you'll have no problem, being valedictorian and having awesome ACTs, as long as you can stand out in essays and recs. One question though...have you taken SATs?

Oh, and I think I know someone who did the CTD program this past summer.

Northwestern, Wash U in St. Louis, Yale, Duke, UC Berkley, Stanford, Columbia, UPenn are all subjective...ur qualified for all of them but u dont have anything that stands out especialy which is what really helps when its at that level of schools

UMich Ann Arbor, U of I in Champaign, Johns Hopkins u shud have no problem getting into

Most of these are such iffy schools- so many good kids apply, so few spots

These would be "reaches" or, it might be better to say "uncertanties" (in order of biggest reach to the closest to match):
1) Yale
2) Penn
3) Duke
3) Stanford
4) UC Berk
5) Northwestern
6) Columbia
7) JHU
8) WashU in St. Louis
9) UMich Ann Arbor

U of I in Champaign would be more of a match

I think that Northwestern would be a great school for you. You have outstanding grades and class rank. Wherever your ACT scores are within an acceptable region, you should be admitted. There are only a few schools that your ACT score wouldn't be in the top 25%.

Yale - REACH
Penn - REACH
Duke - REACH
Stanford - REACH
Columbia - REACH
Wash U - REACH
Northwestern - MATCH
Johns Hopkins - MATCH
Cal-Berkeley - REACH
Michigan - MATCH

Only reason many are REACHES is because the school has very low acceptance rates, and your ACT score isn't in the top 25%

are you a URM? If so that helps. If not, youve still got as good (or better) of a chance as anyone. Consider applying to a lot of your reaches, and your chances of acceptance will increase because you expand the pool of subjectivity in the admissions offices. I would say that your reaches are

Yale, Penn, Stanford, Columbia

Low Reach/Possible Match

Duke, WashU, NU, Hopkins, Cal B

Match/Possible Safety

Michigan

what are you planning to major in? sounds like medicine. if so, definitely apply to Wash U and JH. I just returned from WashU and it's incredible. #3 in medicine in the nation. however I'll be pursuing English :-D
