I JUST found out that the friend who was supposed to do my peer review never sent it in!!

We were casually texting and I mentioned Dartmouth and she goes, "Wait, you applied there?" I asked her to do my peer rec back in October for ED but after I told her that I wasn't applying ED she thought that I meant that I wasn't applying to Dartmouth, not that I was applying RD instead!! I can't believe this is happening.

I'm going to call the admissions office right away tomorrow. I never got an email from them telling me that I was missing materials. It's required, they might have thrown my application out already.

What should I do and how screwed am I?

you are very screwed. Get your counsellor to send dartmouth a long apologetic email admonishing your friend.

Pay no attention to successman. Trust me, you will not be the only applicant who doesn’t have a peer rec. They aren’t going to throw your application out.

If it would make you feel better, you could ask your friend to write it and email it NOW. You could, if you wish, call admissions and ask if this is a good idea. I don’t think you would have to reveal your identity.

You’re not screwed. Admittedly, I have nothing substantiative to back this up, but I think peer evaluations are on the same level of importance as interviews – it’s nice to have, but they’re not going to toss your application just because it’s not there. I imagine these peer recs are fairly open to sabotage (peers might write bad things or nothing at all thinking it’ll ruin the other person’s chances), so they probably consider them with a grain of salt.

But yeah, give them a call.

Hi guys, thank you all so much. I called them this morning and they were really understanding about it (Yet another reason for me to be hopelessly in love with Dartmouth). The girl who answered told me that they will take it and that it wouldn’t affect my application. I really hope this is true. My friend also told me that she’s sent it, so hopefully they get it soon!

Regardless, we’ll find out what happens soon enough! Good luck to everyone, and thanks again for responding.
