Oh no, a C!

For schools like Cornell ED, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, how bad does one C look as a first marking period grade in AP Bio for senior year? I’m applying for Computer Science. I know I can bring this up to a B by the end of the year, but I’m worried about the colleges thinking this is my best work in that class.

The rest of my transcript is mostly A’s and a few B’s in all AP/honors classes. Senior year it’s all A’s except for one B and one C. The class average for AP Bio is I think the lowest of all the classes the school offers, and I didn’t “figure out” how to get good grades in AP Bio until just now.

Am I screwed?

I hope not.. I got a C too..

AP Bio is hard... Especially if you took academic (not honors) biology two years ago with a really easy teacher who taught u nothing (Like me!) I have a B 85% right now but i'm struggling so much to keep it up there. What are u guys covering right now? we're doing mitosis and meiosis. lol sorry this is somewhat off topic in regards to you original post. thought i'd use the opp to talk about AP biology w/ someone other than my classmates

I don't know if those schools look at Senior grades, but it will hurt a bit. Bio IS pretty tough, but it's certainly possible to get an A if you work hard enough (as in, get Cliffs Notes and memorize it).

actually I take ap phy

What about a B for 1st quarter physics? Deadly?

Hahaha, I came to post this same thread, I'm probably applying to JHU also (for cognitive sciences/psycholinguistics) and got a 67 in AP Bio this term. I really don't think it'll make that much of a difference.

its only the first quarter...they see nothing but semester grades, so dont worry about it...i have a 91 A- in AP Bio now...if you use campbell's biology, make sure to get the study guide for it...helps out a lot for the multiple choice

well, my school's sending 1st quarter grades...... that's bad

yeah, I got a C+ in Calc BC....there go my chances at my first-choice...

arrgh............

Yes a "C" in high school in any course automatically prohibits entry into any of the ivys or the top 50 schools. Good luck at ASU or K-State! Seriously you can't be serious. There are worse things in life than a "C." You should have no trouble getting into these schools if your ACT scores are high and your essays are good.

but the problem is that I got 2 C+'s
the rest are all A's

man, I'm messed up for college admissions

Just got my report card back, and I did better in AP Bio than I thought!

Report Card:
AP Bio - 68
AP Lit/Comp - 92
Ethics - 93
Conflicts in Modern Society - 93

Mwahahaha.

Ecliptica// did you apply early to JHU? I hope that bio grade doesn't hurt your chances..

Nah, I didn't bother to apply early, but I don't really think I'll be going there whether I'm accepted or not anyhow (pretty much verbally committed to Davidson last night for track). I'd love to explain it to colleges on the applications, but how good does it sound that: "Homework was 25% of my grade, and I only did 5 of 21 homework assignments this term". Seriously, what AP class makes homework 25% of the grade?

oh.. HW 25% of the grade -_-
