Oh no! How long do I have to accept my awards?

I JUST decided on going to Berkeley yesterday and submitted my SIR then, but I didn't get to accept any awards because it was after 7:00 p.m. So, I was planning on accepting all of my awards TODAY, but when I went to do that I got greeted with this message:

We're sorry, but the system is currently unavailable. Please try again, later.

The "Financial Aid Status" or "Award Summary" options on Bear Facts display some of the data you want to review. Remember, however, that any transactions done in the last 24 to 48 hours will not be displayed from these options.

When is the deadline for accepting awards?? Is it by May 1st? If so, what happens if it goes down for the whole day today and tomorrow? Or what if because I submitted by SIR less than 24 hours ago, and 48 hours after submitting my SIR would be past the deadline, then I would be screwed? Can I accept awards over the phone?

i called them about this a couple days ago, and they said that i have until the end of the academic year that the awards apply to to decline/accept the awards...so since i am going to be a freshman this fall, i have until the end of my freshman year (around may 2008) to decide which awards i will accept or decline

i am not positive if i was interpreting the financial aid office guy's answer to my question correctly, so anyone who has experience with this feel free to confirm my response or correct it

Okay, it's back up now, but I only see a page where I can accept my loan awards. How do I accept my Cal Grant award?

Everything that doesn't need to be repaid is applied automatically to your bill.

sorry but just making sure...do i have til the end of my freshman year to accept/decline awards?

So, you aren't supposed to "accept" your Cal Grant? So, on EVERYBODY's award summary, it doesn't say "ACCEPTED" next to the Cal Grant?

yeah grants, scholarships, etc...anything you don't pay back is automatically accepted...and it's up to you to decide if you want to accept the loans or not

deadline for accepting loans is not may 1st, correct? anyone?

How come the other grants and scholarships automatically said "accepted" (going along with what you're saying), but the Cal Grant says NOTHING next to it (which doesn't go along with what you're saying)?

Chill out. High school hasn't even ended for you and you are already worrying about this.

unlimitedx - I think my concerns are valid, especially considering the proximity of May 1st. High school ends a relatively long time from May 1st, and it's best to have all of this sorted out ASAP. So, I don't see anything wrong with worrying about this stuff at the moment...

I've already told you that all grants will be applied to your bill in due time. Other users have said the same. Yet, you don't believe us and asked again. What more can we say?

All grants and scholarships will be automatically accepted by beginning of the fall term.

unlimitedx - I just wanted clarification because my other grants/scholarship were automatically accepted, but my Cal Grant wasn't. In this thread, by others you mean d=], who is also unsure of the deadline of accepting awards? I never said I don't believe you (I can't really "not believe you" if my question hasn't been answered about why the Cal Grant in particular hasn't been accepted, by the other grants and scholarships have).

I might have sounded harsh-but that wasn't my intention, really. My intention was to provide the simplest answer because financial aid can be tricky, and when I was in your situation as a pre-freshman I sure had a lot of questions too. But the nice thing is that it all works out at the end.

All grants and scholarships on the financial aid offer will be distributed to you in due time. Cal grants take a bit longer to be accepted because they have to verify your status and GPA, and the university needs to receive the funding from the state government before it can be finalized and ready for distribution. But like I said before, everything that doesn't need to be repaid (scholarships and grants) will be automatically accepted by fall term.

What they won't do is offer the Cal Grant and then take it away or reduce it after you sumbit your SIR unless there is a change in your financial situation. But there are some exceptions. Go to http://students.berkeley.edu/fao/calgrants.html for more details.

Hopefully this clears part of it up and good luck on college decisions :)

ahhh please someone answer the question i've asked multiple times on this thread!!
how long do i have to accept or decline my loan offers??...may 1st or until the end of my freshman school year at berkeley?!?!
