I had an in school suspension that I reported to ALL of my colleges under the disciplinary section. The whole thing went down sophomore year and it was for truancy, for a day.

I emailed my counselor early december (which admittedly was during break) asking if I absolutely had to report it, and never got a response. To be safe, I ended up reporting it. She told me yesterday that there was no need to, and that SHE didn't report it on her counselor letter thingy.

GAHHH I'm so mad because if she had replied I wouldn't have had this strike against me, but I'm also mad for being too damn embarassed to ask her earlier in person. Do you think I should try to call colleges and request that they take out that part of my application? How big of a strike is it against me to have this on there? Especially considering that I didn't even have to report it (grumble grumble)

Hah, they probably won’t care at all. ISS is not a big deal. Disciplinary action is a real suspension. ISS, just like a detention, is rarely reported by counselors, unless it’s a regular occurrence.

One ISS, sophomore year, and for truancy of all things, will not matter. Thumbs up for your honesty though. If you included a reasonable explanation for that truancy, you’re fine!

I would actually think that’s a plus: One for your honesty, and Two for your rebellious nature. You’re not a nerd machine that does everything when told to. Good for you!

This is an article the college counselor (nationally recognized, I think) at my school wrote about disciplinary action and college admissions, and I hope it will be helpful. A bunch of people got violations/suspensions at the beginning of the school year due to two large parties getting busted.

hello, I was wondering if I have to report a tardy detention and if I don’t have to will my GC have to tell the colleges? btw I have 4.0 unweighted and am number 27 in the nation for junior triathletes. What are my chances for Yale or Stanford?
