I didn't know much about ACT, so I took it without the writing portion (I had registered late and wanted to save some money). I got a decent composite score of 34. BUT I just found out that most colleges only accept ACT with writing (!). Did I spend all that time and money in vain, or can I still send in my score with my SAT scores, which includes writing?

Send both, especially if your SAT scores are not as high as your ACT scores!

Check with the specific colleges in which you are interested. Many will accept the ACT w/o writing for students planning to matriculate in 2006. My son just received e-mail responses about this subject from three of the colleges in which he is interested. Not one required the ACT writing or the new SAT.
