Ohio Residency Status HELP!

I am an instate student that will be attending in the Spring. I just looked at my outstanding charges sheet that I got today and it said that I was an out of state student and it tacked on 7k in fees. The deadline for the instate application was due on the 15th of December, and I didn’t know that they would tack on 7k in fees nor did I know I had to fill one out.

I need help is it possible to convince them to remove the fees? Please help!! 7,000 is a lot of money.

The same thing happened to my in-state S in the fall. You have to go onto Buckeye Link and register your selective service number (if you are 18) and then it will adjust it accordingly. I think you have to go to the residency part of Buckeye Link.

I would also call Student Services later in the week next week to make sure they got the information. If you are not 18 yet I would ask them what to do, but the selective service number was what caused the discrepancy for my S.

I do have my selective service number. But the thing is that the due date has since passed and It will not let me do anything in the online form. I already emailed the bursar and I will leave a voicemail everywhere I can. I guess my only hope is to contact student services next week.

I really hope that I can get this figured out.

You don’t put it on an online form. You should be able to do it this way from the university website:
If you are a male between the ages of 18-26, you must report your Selective Service number to the university, in compliance with state law, or nonresident tuition and fees will be assessed.
•Obtain your Selective Service number at sss.gov or by calling (847) 688-6888.
•Submit your number to Ohio State through the Online Residency Reclassification Form.
To access the form:1.Sign into the Student Center or Applicant Center via buckeyelink.osu.edu. (Go to the STUDENT CENTER-you are no longer considered an applicant if they are giving you amounts due.
2.Under Personal Information select Residency in the pull-down menu and click
on the arrow.

Let me know if you are able to do that, but still call them. It will be fine. :-)

I tried doing that but I got this screen instead. http://i49.■■■■■■■.com/2hovds0.png

Did you try to select the spring term? If it won’t let you, you will be fine. Just talk to the bursar’s office or Student Services on maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

Yep. And it doesn’t show any terms. I called the office and they said that the would reopen on the 26th. Hopefully it will work out. Thank you for making me feel better.

Bump. Anyone else have any ideas or experiences?

@mbusa001-have you been able to get this straightened out yet? Just checking. :-)

Yep. I called in on Wednesday and they took my Selective Services number and the account statement was changed instantly. They said that there really isn’t a deadline for transfer students.

Great-I figured that would fix the problem. Hopefully you can start in January with a little stress as possible!

Haha yeah. Thanks for the support. It helped lightened the mood over the holidays.
