My good friend just got into The Ohio State University a few days ago! I think you have a pretty good chance, considering your GPA and class rank. As for class rigor, how many honors courses have you taken, since you said you’ve only taken one AP. Also, if you haven’t discovered the oh-so-magnificent Common Data Sets, I suggest you take a gander:

Chance me back? I don’t know how to link within the site (I’m pretty behind on this whole technology thing), but my thread is called “My FINAL Chance Thread,” and it was posted maybe fifteen or twenty minutes ago?

Well, test scores aren’t everything, to be sure. If you’re a strong applicant in other categories, and your ACT isn’t catastrophic (which, I assure you, is not), you’re good! As for ECs, just show the colleges what you’re passionate about. Just because you may not have many ECs doesn’t mean they’re mediocre. If you’re passionate about something, it’s okay to just have those activities. As long as you’re not hopping from club to club just to fill in another blank space on the app. :)

Can you explain the whole high match, low match, high reach business, hahaha? My average ECs are NHS, volunteering for political campaign, small summer job, Spanish Club, volunteer tutoring, church work, rec basketball. No major positions or anything.

Here are chance ratings from the worst to the best:

High reach (I don’t use it but a couple of other people do): You have almost no chance whatsoever
Reach: Pretty hard to get in but you might have a chance
Low reach: Personally this is about ~20% chance to get in
High match: Rejection is likely but you have a better chance for acceptance than in a reach
Match: About equally likely to be accepted or rejected
Low match: Acceptance is likely but there’s still some room for rejection (~20%)
Safety: You’re pretty much good to go

I’m from Ohio as well and was recently accepted into Ohio State.

Your chances are pretty good. Basically a safety but not completely. But I really don’t see why you wouldn’t get in. In state helps a lot. Miami Ohio is slightly harder. I would say you are about a match there. Florida would be a reach.

I think you’re fine, and could even shoot higher. All As in important years is awesome! And your ECs should not hurt you either. I’d give you like an 80% chance to get in.
