Will they now start releasing them in weekly batches or is it just random?? And it seemed like more of the people who heard back were admitted in the Nov wave? I was accepted in Dec but have not heard back and getting worried.
I was told that you have to accept your admission to OSU before they notify you whether or not you receive the scholarship. Is this true?
good luck to everyone
Did you commit to the school before you got notified?
@shitalpatel6 not true. My daughter received Distinction and opted to attend USC.
ohh thank you. I received my acceptance in November but I have not heard back from morrill. However, I did get accepted to the scholars yesterday. Does this mean I do not have a good chance at morrill?
My daughter accepted 12/15, got University Honors and Maximus scholarship on 1/9. Haven’t hear about Morrill and Eminence. I hope she will get either Morrill or Eminence to attend OSU.
Dumb question, but has anyone ever received notification about Morrill BEFORE actually being accepted? Just curious.
@STEM2017 you have to be admitted before they evaluate for Morrill Scholars.
@JennyDad Those dates are the same here for my son. Either of those would be amazing wouldn’t it?
@shitalpatel6 No you don’t have to accept admission
I received prominence. How do I find out if I am being considered for distinction?
@lawandphotos
In my daughter’s email it said, “Furthermore, based on the academic excellence and advocacy for diversity exemplified in your application, you are being considered for the Morrill Scholarship Program’s premier award, the Distinction Scholarship. This scholarship is equal to the value of the full cost of attendance. You will be notified by February 1 if you are recommended for an on-campus interview. These interviews will take place February 22-23, 2019.”
I recieved an email yesterday inviting me to the distinction weekend!
Our daughter was extremely fortunate to be awarded the Morrill Scholarship last year as an out of state student. She is currently a Freshman and absolutely LOVES OSU and everything the Morril offers. It is an incredible program and the University is full of other opportunities as well. Count your blessings if you are fortunate enough to receive this amazing opportunity.
Many people have had a few questions and perhaps I can help to answer them.
1- You must be accepted to OSU before being considered for the Morrill Scholarship
2- You could qualify for other scholarships such as the Buckeye, etc before hearing to see if you are able to get the Morrill Scholarship
3- Some will get the Prominence Scholarship which covers FULL TUITION but does not cover Room and Board or University Fees. The Distinction Scholarship covers EVERYTHING.
4-Some will get a letter stating the award for the Prominence and some will get the same letter but it will include an extra statement “Furthermore, based on the academic excellence and advocacy for diversity exemplified in your application, you are being considered for the Morrill Scholarship Program’s premier award, the Distinction Scholarship. This scholarship is equal to the value of the full cost of attendance. You will be notified by February 1 if you are recommended for an on-campus interview” If you do not get this statement, you will not be considered for all the other expenses the Distinction Scholarship covers.
5-Scholarships DO NOT STACK. The Morrill Scholarship is the best Scholarship OSU offers other than the Eminence Scholar Scholarship Basically, a student will not get both the Buckeye Scholarship and the Morrill Scholarship. The Morril Scholarship is a higher valued scholarship. If you have been offered the Buckeye Scholarship, it does not mean you will not get the Morrill Scholarship.
@camcam2022 (or anyone else) Would you be comfortable sharing any details about you and your daughter’s experience at last year’s Distinction Weekend?
Hi everyone! I have two questions.
- I have not heard anyone mention the Excellence level of the Morrill scholarship yet. Is it possible that they have not decided on their in-state kids yet?
- Also, will they send an email if I didn’t get the scholarship?
I was accepted mid-November and I’m starting to worry. All I need is to win the lowest level to make my decision clear. Please let me know if you know either of these questions!
@Nasagirl My daughter received Excellence last Friday. She was a November admit. Good luck to you.
My daughter was accepted in the Dec wave. Currently waiting to see if she will be a Morrill recipient. OSU is her first choice. The other 3 schools(Miami, OU and Univ Dayton) have already sent their scholarship offers. I would love for her to attend OSU however the amount of merit aid offered will be the determining factor where she attends. Myself and her dad are OSU alums. Fingers crossed ??
Thank you, and congratulations to your daughter! Do you mind sharing her stats?
