Ohio State vs University of Pennsylvania vs Miami

95mmkknn Thank you very much for your reply, you summed it up nicely. Although this isn’t my thread, I’m also a recipient of the Eminence Fellowship and have decided to attend OSU.

Congratulations GW! I wish you the best!

Thank you very much 95mmkknn and FlyMeToTheMoon for your comments. They help more than you know. I will post as soon as I can make a decision.

Panicking!

^ Go with your [well informed] gut feeling! Our [again, well informed] instincts rarely fail us!

Good luck! You can’t go wrong no matter what you choose!

(For the record, I’m pulling for Penn. )

I agree with 48%, but I’m pulling for OSU!

No amount of money is worth turning down Penn in favor of OSU, none whatsoever.

“No amount of money is worth turning down Penn in favor of OSU, none whatsoever.”

What would your parents say goldenboy? I do agree that Penn seems to be the best choice here. 20K for four years at an Ivy League school certainly sounds like a bargain to me.

SweetiePi, Penn is a great school, but you’re a great student. You are doing your due dilligence and carefully exploring the options. You are learning something about yourself and what you really care about. You are not required to like Penn or OSU better than Miami. Nobody else’s opinions really matter at this point.

If you really like Miami the best, then pick Miami, and congratulations for choosing to make yourself happy.

It is so hard to pass up an Ivy League acceptance; however, I feel that the Eminence Fellowship is the best program for me. I am pretty sure I will confirm to OSU but I have to sleep on it one more night.

Good idea. You need to be sure. See how you feel first thing in the morning before you have time to rationalize your thoughts.

Can’t wait to find out! I’m emotionally invested in you! You can PM me if you would rather not publicize it. Whatever decision you make is the right one for you.

It would be foolish to take OSU over Penn given the vast differences in class sizes of the two. 8% of Penn’s classes are over 50 students, and 22% of OSU’s are.

The down side to OSU Eminence is that it’s not what it was cracked up to be. The down side to Penn Vagelos is that you are just an ordinary Ivy grad when you finish.

rhg3rd…why do you say that the Eminence is “not what it was cracked up to be”? The students that I spoke with in the program (this years’ freshmen who are the first in the program) loved it and thought that they had received many opportunities already. Also, as a student taking honors classes, I think that the class sizes will be smaller. I still have not been able to make the decision.

No, what I meant was just in the event that things turn out not as they appear now. Also, you are not going to get honors classes the whole way. OSU may offer some, but then you are just in regular classes for the rest.

Some state universities add H to the end of some courses, but then it is just the regular class at the same time with an extra project or paper.

Will you have honors organic chem or biochem at OSU or just the regular?

I can not imagine choosing Ohio State OR Miami Ohio over Penn at at $20K total cost for Penn. Doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t know specifically on those two courses but online it says over 300 sections of honors courses are offered and class size avg is 20 with a 25 cap. Also I will enter with 40+ hours from my AP courses so I will not have to take some of the general required courses. I think that will leave me with about an extra 2 semesters to get a dual degree, a masters at the same time, or log many research hours.

Sounds like you have decided. Good luck!

Miami is out of the picture at this point. Also, it is not just Ohio State it is the Eminence Fellowship at OSU.

texaspg, I wish that I could say that I have decided. My heart says OSU but my brain says Penn.
