Go Bucks!!!
@sparkeye7 good news indeed! As a Michigan alum who’s son is at OSU, I look forward to the day, hopefully in my lifetime, when Ohio State will be considered an elite public flagship and academic peer of Michigan, UVA, Wisconsin, UNC and Berkeley. Ohio State is doing a lot of things right now, with the 2 year on campus living requirement, strong First Year Experience and Second Year Experience supplemental learning programs, spending hundreds of millions of dollars in building new/renovating academic, recreational and living facilities and increasing academic and admissions stringency, with more top notch in-state as well as out of state students than ever before. The class size–7,600 would be the largest class ever and may not reflect the summer melt. I would be interested to see what the final class profile is for the Autumn 2016 freshman class. The Autumn 2015 had a freshman class of 6,978, and Autumn 2014, 2013, and 2012 had freshman class sizes of 7,024, 7,083 and 7,186 students, respectively. See Admission Class Profile in Oesar.osu.edu. Class size was in the 6,700 range in the preceding years. Interestingly, domestic freshman applicants for this Autumn 2016 increased by about 3,000 (from 35,593 in 2015 to 38,667 this past year) and acceptances increased by about 3,000. There were approximately 10,000 international applicants for each of Autumn 2015 and 2016 freshman classes. I read that OSU is looking for a target freshman class size of 7,000.
The number of students paying acceptance fees for Fall 2016 was 8500+. So, I am quite sure 7600 is the number after summer melt – OSU need more students to offset the flat tuition. Also, looking at the timing of the release, this is number of students here (classes start tomorrow, and I think the fee payments were due a week back).
