Hello, I am a freshmen at community college in New York, very interested in transferring to a media and audio production program. I have heard that the Ohio University School of Media Arts is a respected program in terms of music, audio post production and media production. These are all fields I wish to pursue so it seems like it would be perfect. I know the distance is far (about 10 hours by car) but I can't seem to find a program just like it with the school being equally amazing as well. Is there anyone out there who is familiar with Ohio University? Any recommendations? Any insight would be very much appreciated! I also understand that suny plattsburgh, as it is closer, has a similar program. Any insight on this would be cool too!

I have a nephew at Ohio U. and he’s been extremely happy with his choice. It has the party school reputation (I think it’s #2?), but is avoidable. He’s a straight A student there and hangs out with similar studious types. He’s now in his third year. The rankings are rising at OU, and yes, the program you are interested in pursuing is excellent. The OOS costs are about $30,000 yr. OU also offers several merit scholarships, so look at those too and see if you qualify (the Gateway, and also program specific scholarships). I’m not sure what your GPA is at cc, but you might also be interested in Syracuse.

I forgot to say that the Athens is a great college town! It’s a really beautiful area. There is also a bus for students that runs twice daily to the Columbus airport. Just something to keep in mind for travel. No Amtrak available, but Southwest flies out of Columbus and US Air often has some great deals to the east if purchased way ahead. Good luck!

thanks so much! one of the biggest factors in determining me going there is travel, and the fact that they have a bus that runs twice daily to the airport is great news!

My D is at SUNY Plattsburgh and absolutely loves it. She is not in that particular program so I can’t comment on it. If you have any questions about the school itself, I can try to help you. Although I am partial to Platts, I think that Oswego also has a similar program that you may want to check out.

I’m not sure if you would be able to apply for these your first semester (so email and ask!), but OU does offer many media studies merit awards (need a 3.0). You may be able to apply for one of these scholarships to help with the costs to attend out of state:
