Hi!
Disclaimer: I absolutely suck at math, so all the extenuating circumstances I mention probably wouldn’t make much of a difference.
That being said, here’s what’s up.
I was just accepted to UChicago and have confirmed my attendance in the fall. I’m SO EXCITED–this has been my dream school, and I’m still shocked to have gotten in.
However, there’s really only one thing holding me back from attending, and that is the possibility that I might be getting a C in calculus AB this year. I’ve been a straight-A, 4.0 student all through high school, and so you can imagine the terror I’m feeling right now. I’ve always had to work much, much harder in my math classes than any other class, and I think having the AP version has been a little overwhelming. That being said, last semester I did relatively well and got an A-. But this semester, the tests became exponentially harder–our teacher began using real AP tests without the AP curve, and I’ve talked with many students about the decline in our test grades. I was also sick for an extended period of time, making it difficult to get caught up with the material.
None of this was a huge concern until today, when my teacher decided, without letting any of us know, to weight tests at 85% and homework at 15%. My grade is a 72.05% and we have our LAST TEST FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR on Tuesday (!!!). I’m so unimaginably scared that I won’t do well.
We still have the final, which is rumored to be easier than all the other tests, but I’m extremely disheartened. If I get perfect scores on this next test and the final, I can end up with a solid B in the class, so it’s possible to save myself. I also just had my first meeting with a math tutor (of which I’m paying for myself since, you know, more motivation to work).
What I want to know is, how likely would it be for UChicago to rescind a student for a C+/B- (assuming that’s what I’ll end the year with if I’m averaging my possible scores)? Please help, I’m so worried.
Thank you <3
