I am a senior in highschool interested in G.W. Elliot School of International Affairs. I have been debating weather or not it would be a good idea to bind myself. I am willing to if my gpa/standerdized test scores are borderline to its standards, but if I have a good shot of getting in as a regular descision applicant, I would rather do that. The problem is, I have not been able to find the freshman profile specifically of Elliot, only the school's as a whole. I was wondering if you could give me some insight- my current gpa is 3.75 (unweigted its at a 3.49), my acts are at a 27, and my sats are v-670 m-580. I have taken a decent amount of AP/honors classes, and participated in 2 clubs and have been on the tennis team for all 4 years. If you could give me any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if my chances are slim weather or not I apply ED, would it be a good idea to apply to columbia and try and transfer out later?
Thanks!
Monica

I don't think that the Elliot School has separate admissions criteria from GW as a whole. My understanding is that you will go in the same pile as every other freshman applicant to GW. So, I believe that you should use the freshman profile from the entire school as your guide.

From what I can tell, you are pretty much smack dab in the middle of their profile for admitted freshman. So, I would consider GW a match. Whether you decide to apply ED or not, I believe that you have a decent shot at being admitted to GW.

great..anyone else have any input? does anyone have a good idea of my chances at the following schools:
American
U. of Maryland
U. of Richmond
U. of Delaware
UIUC

If you apply ED, I hope you know that GW is one of THE most expensive schools. Financial aid should not be an issue.
Part 1 of the application needs to be submitted by 12/1 for EDII; Part 2 by 1/15.
GW notifies you of its decision by early February.

yeahhh i know..its like 45000 a year...does anyone know the average amount a student receives there in terms of financial aid. If I could combine that w scholarships and work and bring it to around 30-35 I have somewhat of a chance

I would say that you are a match at Richmond and UIUC and the other schools you mentioned are safeties.

Regarding financial aid at GW , I found the following:

Of all full-time matriculated undergraduates who enrolled in 2002, 4,702 applied for aid, 3,456 were judged to have need, 2,729 had their need fully met
In 2002, 1927 non-need-based awards were made
Average percent of need met: 94%
Average financial aid package: $27,413
Average need-based loan: $6888
Average need-based gift aid: $15,891
Average non-need based aid: $11,318
Average indebtedness upon graduation: $22,854

This may be old data, but it should give you an idea of their aid packages. At first glance, it doesn't appear as bad as I assumed it would be. GW seems to do a pretty decent job of meeting the financial need of its students.
