Okay so I have a problem

My road to becoming a doctor may end here. I dont know what to do anymore. I am currently a Management Informations system major along with my premedical studies. I just ended my freshman year. My grades were terrible this year. First semester was a 2.9 and now my second semester grades may be worse. I took chem II, physics I, and bio II. I thought I was doing so well this semester, almost on the dean's list but now I dont know what to do. I messed up on my finals and I am almost certain now that I will get a C in all of those. Physics I thought I would get an A in and chem and bio I thought I was going to get a A's as well if I did my finals well (no plus or minus system) but I messed up. I am almost certain I am doomed. What should i do? should I keep doing premed and hope for the best or should I just concentrate on my business major. If I do that I think i will apply to Upenn's business school, or even oxford or kings college for grad school. Someone please help me. What should i do??????

1) Actually wait for the grades to come back.
2) Breath - hopefully you got some sleep last night as most things usually look better in the morning.
3) You need to figure out WHY this happened - not study enough? study wrong material (ie textbook when lecture material would have been more appropriate)? Poor test taking skills? Anything else?
4) It's possible you are right and you do need to be thinking about another path.

4) It's possible you are right and you do need to be thinking about another path

Yes, and it's better you realize this now than when you are a graduatinig senior.

Okay I was way too worried. I actually did really well on most of my exams and I had forgotten the classes were scaled. I got a 3.4 this last semester so I guess I can keep doing it and actually get good grades. The problem really was that I didnt try that hard and I had a really big head accident before second semester. Had amnesia for like 2 days and couldnt remember things from first semester plus I had insomnia which affected me greatly.

Now I follow my proper sleep hygiene thing so I should be set.

that sounds like a really dramatic semester...
if your story was real, than next time, don't freak out so much

i just feel like theres so much pressure

Unfortunately, you will have to learn to handle ever-increasing amounts of pressure without freaking out. This is not your fault. But situations will escalate from here.

Not to intrude, but sleep hygiene?

Sleeping and waking up at the same time very day.

how did you guys cope with it? i just started smoking 2 weeks ago to deal with it but its not healthy so im trying find alternative ways.

Yeah that's a bad idea.

Smoking to cope with stress? Probably not going to improve things. I'm not going to tell you to "get a hobby". I think it is best to get some sort of a perspective. Write things down. Set small goals for yourself and achieve them.

You want to be a doctor... and you picked up smoking? I never understood premeds like that.

hahaha thats what my friend told me. i only smoke like 2 a week. i have a friend who is a nutrition major and he smokes everything and eats everything.

btw uvajack, im at uva right now chilling.

Smoking is sick! :(

But all the cool kids are doing it.

You can smoke if you are stressed out, or you can exercise if you are stressed out, but you can't do both- the smoking makes it so you can't breathe well enough to exercise.

That's a hint that smoking is not a good idea.

There are so many things bad about smoking.DO NOT START.YOUR KIDS-GRAND KIDS wiil do it if you do it.You will responsible fro all that.

I remember all the smoker kids in my high school physical education class being really bad at jogging and running.

All kinds of smoking are not equal. You guys are smart enough not to just repeat D.A.R.E. talking points.
