Okay, so sat II's ARE required, right?

I'm about to register for three SATII's and I'm confused if they're required or not with the new policy change regarding standardized tests.

I'll most likely be applying to Steinhardt for Media, Culture, and Communication. If I don't do that, I'll apply to Gallatin or CAS.

anybody…

it’s 3 SAT IIs for SAT I
you have to take 1 science 1 history literature or arts something and the other is your choice but you can’t take language

[NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > Applying for Admission > Freshman Applicants > Standardized Tests](How to Apply)

this lists all the requirements. I hope it helps answer your question

No. Not required. Read the list at the link provided above.

thats great. i just signed up for them last night. Should I cancel it and take the SAT instead? Ahhh IDK.

Did you read the link?

If you take the SAT…you DO have to take the SAT IIs.

OR…there are several other options.

You have to look at the link/page…it’s very confusing.

SAT plus two SAT IIs (or 2 APs in place of SAT IIs)
or
ACT
or
three APs
or
three SAT IIs

etc.

Back then we didn’t have any choice like you whippersnappers do, and while we had to walk uphill in 10 feet of snow both ways it was much better than the ruckus you kids get into these days.

(Seriously, I preferred my application last year where you needed the SAT and 2+ SATIIs, or the ACT or whatever. I have no idea how they will compare people now; if I only needed three APs or something that would’ve been easy as hell.)

Yeah I knew that was the option, but when I looked at Steinhardt’s website and the NYU forums, it says SAT II’s are required for students applying to majors at Steinhardt that don’t require a portfolio or audition.

Here is my take on that:
Some of this info is old, and the new rules are…new.
They’re wanting to clarify that…if a person is auditioning for a vocal performance major…then they are looking at their talent. That audition is in lieu of the required SAT IIs. However, if one is not auditioning, they still need the SAT IIs BECAUSE they’re required of the rest of the school. HOWEVER…now the requirements have changed. So…the rest of the school has a complex matrix of options, and a non-audition Steinhardt applicant would then follow those rules. However…if you’re still not sure…join the forum and ask. They’ve answered many of my own questions in a very timely manner and very satisfactorily. Good luck.
