Old SAT vs New SAT

Hey CC,

I’m a freshman in high school, looking to prepare myself as much as possible for the SAT’s. I bought the official blue book a few months ago, but hadn’t really done much in it and got carried away with schoolwork. Now with all this news of the new SAT, I got discouraged and thought the book was pretty much useless, but I was curious nonetheless. I took the first practice test on Sunday and scored a 1950 - my math was fine, writing was fine, but critical reading was absolutely horrid. I’ve been planning to work extensively on preparing for critical reading and the rest of the test in general, but wasn’t sure if this would be counter-productive (if new test is too different / making test-taking strategies that wouldn’t apply to the new one). What do you guys think?

Study for the ACT instead. Although I heard that the CR will be a lot easier on the new SAT after they take away all the useless words.

@qpqpqp‌ You don’t think the critical reading is gonna be harder now that it’s so analytical? And the essay - since it’s basically required by ivies for ACT, would it be the same deal here?

Everyone says it’ll be a lot easier but it just depends on the person.

@qpqpqp‌ Fair enough…but I think the math at least is much harder. Yeah, it’s still only alg. 2 and maybe trig and calc, but questions like these:

https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sample-questions/math/calculator-permitted/29

Make it seem much extremely hard compared to the current math, which I thought was a breeze.

Both questions are easily solved by plugging in…

Yeah the math is becoming more and more like ACT.

@Argentina2017‌ I appreciate the confident input, but you don’t think that this will not be as easy as the old test?

It May get harder, but not imposible with some studying. If you take Calculus AB, you are ready to ace the test.
