I was admitted ED to WashU and I am now filling out the housing application. I hear that the people in the new dorms are a tad jappy whereas the people in the old dorms might be more down to earth. is this true, or does everyone request the new dorms? who requests new vs. old dorms? do all the parties happen in the new dorms? any advice would be greatly appreciated. what are other admits requesting? thanks!

anyone?? i could really use some input here...

dunno about people, i hear the old dorms are really cold in the winter, and really hot in the summer. Heard that from mi padre ~ he's alumni.

thanks frndrplayer8! Anyone else have any input? I know that everyone is busy debating Wash U admission policies, but for those of you who could be attending next fall, I really am curious about the dorms.

If I'm not mistaken, there was a recent post called "Dorms" that might answer some of your questions...that being said, I'm not sure whether I like old or new either....the old having more "community" and the new having a bathroom that you only have to share with 4 other people(big plus in my eyes!)

I am debating the same thing. Also some kids might prefer Old because they are a bit cheaper, but honestly I don't care

supermascot- i wouldn't stay in the new or old dorms, because you are at washu either way, meaning you are underqualified as an applicant :)

caths2005,

While I can appreciate that your bitter attitude stems merely from washu's waitlist decision, bashing admitted applicants will not earn you a spot at wash u (either in the old or new dorms). Please take your hostile attitude elsewhere...perhaps to the pitzer thread?

Sincerest gratitude.

Dear Caths2005,

Please enlighten us with your amazing resume. I'm sure there are plenty of Wash U admits that would be willing to share.

can a wash u. student (or alum or someone who just knows) post all of the new dorms please....thanks!

Danforth and Lien are all freshman, new buildings. Eliot used to be half-freshman/half sophmore, but next year will be all sophmore. There is a new freshman dorm being built to replace one of the old dorms that is called Phase IV -- although I am sure the name will be changed soon.

As for old dorms, you have : beaumont, lee, umrath, rubelmann, liggit and Koenig (but I believe Koenig is the one being torn down)

it was a JOKE! sheesh. hence the smiley face :)

old dorms are by far more sociable for freshmen. and for sophomores the old dorms have balconies. Try to live in Lee if you can, it's an old dorm with awesome crooked hallways, kitchens on every floors, common rooms, and BALCONIES! No other freshman dorm has balconies. New Dorms are sterile and somewhat more antisocial. They're posh as hell though.

I have just been to the Multicultural weekend, and I got to stay in a old dorm suite with 6 people living together and sharing a bathroom between them. To bad freshmen are not allowed to live in suites. They are really nice, and relatively cheat (same price, even), plus you get a big living room for your TV and sofa. But the old dorm is definitely very social. The door to the suite is almost always open, and never locked. But then, the new dorms are a lot cleaner, newer (duh), better facilitated, etc..

Old dorms all the way! I visited a friend in Lee (an old dorm), and it was great. Everyone was friendly and social, and all the doors were open. She took me to her friend's room in a new dorm, and I was not impressed. Although the rooms were bigger, the hall was deathly silent, and it seemed sooo boring.
