THank you! D24 got the acceptance!
Applied 10/16.
OOS for the merit. Need to visit Bama and Mississippi likely end of January.
How competitive is Honors? Does everyone get scholarship money for honors? Lot of work if not getting any more money.
Iâm not sure how competitve the honors college is. My understanding is that you have to complete the same application and write the essays to be eligible for competitive scholarships and/or the honors college. S24 has not done this yet. He is not big on essay writing especially the type of prompts that are typicallly required. He is also not really interested in honors college, but more scholarship money would be fantastic. It seems like a lot of the questions on the scholarship application are very similar to what he had to answer for the common application. The University of Alabama did the same thing. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. If you already have those answers from the common app, why does he need to provide them again?
My child got accepted but we didnât send scores. Has good scores but I knew they werenât needed for his admission. I started thinking about merit scholarships. Do you think I should send the scores for Merritt consideration? Or do you typically get merit without sending scores?
Also, is there a rush to make a deposit for housing after acceptance (son hasnât made school decision yet).
It doesnât seem like it from the information Iâve seen but since we havenât had a chance to do a tour yet I wasnât sure if we were missing something and didnât want to get stuck with no housing option if he ends up wanting to go. Thanks.
I would put down the $100 deposit. My child ended up going elsewhere, but the entering class this year was the largest ever and housing was very difficult to find for some. We did the deposit in Jan and my kid was on the very end of Round 1 of selection. So they would have likely been in a traditional dorm
