Quakerstate, I really don’t see the point of trashing an entire college/university without providing some details so we can understand your justification.

It was just a response to Informative:

“We don’t do state schools in the northeast. We can afford to send our kids to good schools.”

Many people go to state schools in the Northeast. The SUNY University Centers and many of the colleges are very good choices.

He previously cited rankings to trash Alabama and Ole Miss to the OP. Alabama is ranked 77 by USNews. Binghamton, the highest ranked SUNY (and an excellent school), is 89.

A small group from our suburban Texas HS went to Ole Miss last year and they all lasted one semester. Hard to fit in. Very “old South.” Make sure that is what you want.

Informative quote: We don’t do state schools in the northeast. We can afford to send our kids to good schools.

Ugh…I’ve always thought that you were a naive young person. Are you a parent?

Either way…you’re naive. The NE publics certainly aren’t empty, so are you suggesting that the warm bodies are all imported?

LakeW…

Quaker wasn’t trashing an entire system. Why do you think that? Are you unable to recognize that simply stating that School A is ranked above a certain college system isn’t “trashing” the system? If not, you need to take a Inductive Logic class. Pronto! (take one at a SUNY! certainly good enough!)

Everyone- can we not trash ole miss please? Like I said I’m not deciding between bama & ole miss. I HAVE READY DECIDED I’m going to ole miss a long time ago. I just wanted to know the pros and cons between each skl. Thank you

We are on the west coast (literally) and have lots of our kids heading to SEC Country (everywhere but Florida and Miss State). Our high school has 4 students alone going to Ole Miss this year and 1 last year. We had none going to Bama last year and 2 going this year. So I would counter that Ole Miss is diversifying their OOS base as much as Bama,. There are quite a few CA students going to Ole Miss as well as Bama based upon our friends around So. Cal. The small town charm is very luring. The massive Greek houses at Bama are huge and attractive. Either choice is understandable in my opinion.

I have one child at UGA as a freshman who just finished (she picked over UC schools, Michigan, Wisconsin and Texas as well as other SEC schools) on a partial scholarship. She is staying there this summer with an internship so she loves Athens

My next child is only a freshman so we will visit schools over the next couple years to space out trips. Bama is on his early list so we are going there in September prior to heading over to UGA for a game. I like to mix college visits with trips when there is some interest. Also, I have a younger daughter so 2 birds, one stone.

He seems set on the South but maybe that will change. UGA is out since his sister goes there. His current 3 top choices are in order of Ole Miss, Arkansas and Bama. But we will visit them along with probably Auburn.

Not much talk about Arkansas on the net. We’ve never been to Fayetteville. Is the area as pretty as the pictures reflect? Any positive or negative feedback about the school? No one is going there from our school but it hit my son’s radar for some reason so maybe next summer we will visit along with Ole Miss. Arkansas doesn’t recruit much out here unlike other SEC schools like Bama, Auburn, UGA, Ole Miss and especially USC (hardcore).
