OLevels ALevels and AP Comparison....

hi guys i want yu opinon about the importance given by the universities to an OLEVEL AND ALEVEL subject incomparison with an AP. Is one AP equal to one Alevel subject....for that matter average A level candidate take 3-4 ALevels. On the other hand his counterpart in US for example give nine or ten. Also taking specific example of an Olevel subject "Additional Mathematics" this subject covers almost 70% of Alevel "mathematics".in APs they have AP Calculus whereas in Additional mathematics we cover lots of topics in addition to Alevel Calculus. And yu can yuself guess what would be the level of difficulty of "Further Mathematics", an Alevel subject. UK universities give double credit to this subject when assesing credits for Alevel subjects. Alevel "World history" is another one.

wouldn’t it be unfair if one AP is equal to one O or A Levels?

Life isn’t fair.

IB Mathematics SL (at my school) is a two-year course that covers: pre-calculus, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics. However, because it is at the Standard Level, no college credit is given for the course while credit is given for the one-year AP Calculus, AP Statistics, etc.

Same goes for the other IB courses at our school that are Standard Level. They last one year (as do AP courses) and cover the same material; however, no college credit

Oh well

^because they aren’t higher level, a course isn’t only defined by the time you stay in it, hl courses are much more rigorous, and you must spend more time going deeper into material and spend much more time per week studying, the system gives due credit to these courses. sl courses are to give you a broad base, you can’t expect college credit for that.

I’ve done my A LEVels.. is it as good as AP? I mean did I learn as much as AP students subject wise.. for eg in physics..

From page 85 of the 2006-2007 Columbia College Bulletin: “Pending review by the appropriate department at Columbia. students with grades of A or B on British Advanced Level examinations are granted 6 points of credit if the examinations were taken in disciplines offered as undergraduate programs at Columbia College. The appropriate transcript should be submitted to the First Year Sophomore Academic Advising Center, 403 Lerner.” There is a similar policy for a score of 6 or 7 on the IB.

I wasn’t solely referring to the amount of time spent in the course.

IB Biology SL covers the exact material that AP Biology does, and both are done in a year. Yet credit is only given for IB Biology HL, which goes way more in-depth that AP Biology on its own.

Considering the curricula are the same between IB SL courses and AP courses, I think it’s unfair that credit isn’t given
(For instance, IB Psychology SL versus AP Psychology)

But again, like I said, oh well
