I just found out that my calculator, ti89, is prohibited. The test is tomorrow. What do I do in this situation??!!?!?!? My teacher that you can use it on sat and act. I used it during SAT and was fine.

Find another calculator ASAP. Is there anyone you know who can lend you one that’s not prohibited? I won’t recommend buying a new one, since the ones that are decent are pretty pricey…

No, I don’t know anyone who can lend me since everyone in my math class is using ti89. O well, might have to miss my test tomorrow and take it in December…studied so much for this.

That really sucks, I’m sorry! It’s unfortunate that the calculator is pretty crucial (especially considering the time limit). Well, whatever you do, best of luck.

Why is it not prohibited on sat? Considering that Act math is much harder…

If you are good enough in math, you can recoup somewhat by getting a Four-function calculator. It’s the calculator that has only + - X / and square root operators.

From my understanding, the ACT prohibits the TI-89 because of it’s CAS software as well as it’s ability to solve most of the problems on the ACT. The majority of the SAT’s problems are word problems which don’t require a lot of calculator work, but rather a more difficult setup with easy calculations. On the ACT, a lot of the problems are stated at face value and allowing kids to use a TI-89 would give those kids an unfair advantage.

I’m in the same situation that you are, only I realized this morning that I couldn’t use my TI-89 on the test and managed to find a calculator to borrow before the end of the day.

Good luck to you.

Walmart has TI-84s for $100 dollars. How much is your college education worth to you?

You should be fine with a basic arithmetic calculator. I don’t think I know any problems where the graphing calculator was absolutely necessary and un-solvable without it.

I have already decided to postpone this and study even harder than I have done so far and score higher on act the next time I take it

I don’t really have extra 100 dollars

My Daughter took the ACT EVERY time with a $12 calculator from WalMart. So go pick one up. Don’t give up this testing opportunity over a $12 calculator. Seriously.
