EC’s good – soccer, swimming, government club ... (with awards)

Recs – should be good

Applying to –

Georgetown Early Action (I do not want to get in anywhere off of my minority status so I did not fill this part in. However, I think they will know b/c they wanted to know where my dad was born, and he was born in Africa.)

USC
UT-Austin (already in)
Emory
Columbia
Brown
Dartmouth
Vanderbilt
Duke

that's what the collegeboard says on their website (Nov2) but if you go onto your account it says that your scores are available nov 8

oh, okay .. any feedback on my chances??

Ivies, Duke, Vanderbilt, Emory are a biiiiiig reach (latter two somewhat less so), sorry. Your test scores aren't impressive to them, so unless you get in via athletics (recruit), requiring state awards, mmm...

Then again, you're URM, right? That might be a factor for you.

USC is a match.

yeah I am a URM, but I do not want to use this.

umm... GPA?

GPA is 4.5

Why not use your URM status to your advantage? Lots of other people will be. It's not like you're personally doing anything wrong.

I just don't want to use it. Is there any help u can give me about chances?

USC--match
UT-Austin--safety (already in)
Emory--match
Columbia--big reach
Brown--slight reach to reach
Dartmouth--big reach
Vanderbilt--slight reach
Duke--big reach

These are all based on URM not being taken into account.

Good luck.

what about Georgetown?

USC-Match
UT-Austin-Safety (already in)
Emory-Match
Columbia-Reach
Brown-Reach
Dartmouth-Reach
Vanderbilt-Match
Duke-Reach
Georgetown-Match/Slight Reach

anything else?

Perhaps you don't realize it, but the reason WHY colleges give minorities an advantage is because, generally, there are real, tangible disadvantages to growing up in America as a minority, even if you are wealthy. Studies done by professors as well as psychological experiments have shown this.

You should not feel that you are gaining some unfair advantage because of your minority status--you should feel that the colleges need to account for it, if anything.

That being said, I don't know if you would be able to get into some of those reach schools, even if you did list your minority status. The only one where I could see it helping would be Georgetown--and even then, hopefully you'd be accepted still?

I have already made up my mind about not using it. Thanks anyway. Is there anything about my chances?

What is your unweighted GPA. I understand that USC looks at unweighted and their average admitted is 3.8, average incoming is 3.7. They also expect lots of honors and AP courses so your good weighted GPA will help you on that part.

me22 - props to you. good attitude. I hope you get in.

unweighted is 3.7, but I have taken a lot of AP classes

I think u have a good chance at USC. However, Georgetown and your ivy leagues are a little too high.
