OMG what should i do??

Okay i applied to 4 schools exeter andover hotchkiss and choate.

I heard from all three that i was accepted except for exeter they didnt contact me at all.

so i called the exeter admissions office to ask them when my decision was coming, and they told me they received my interview information late!!

Thats absurb because i had my interview in early december which is WAY before the deadline, except my interviewer submitted the information late!! I checked online and it even showed that all my application materials were submitted on time.

What should i do now?? I am very scared that bcos of my interviewer's tardiness i will be considered a late applicant and i won't be able to get in! or exeter'll just flat-out reject me because all the spots are filled up already!

WHAT TO DO??

Call the school, explain the situation, apologize for the confusion. is Exeter your fisrt choice? Good luck :)

Ok, before you get too crazy, take a breath..... you have heard, and have been accepted into three exceptional schools. So, the absolute worse thing that could happen is you have to choose between three great schools instead of four. You are in a great position. However, that being said, if you still are very seriously considering Exeter, I would call and explain the situation and also let them know that the LionLinks showed that all your info was in. Good Luck. Keep us posted meleny.

chacha: good advice. If basbeballmom was here she'd also advise meleny to drink some hot tea, take a shower, lather rinse and repeat! Also good advice in this situation. I do know that my shotgun on the UPS truck doesn't quite work here. Diplomacy and tact are at a premium. Panic attacks...not so much.

Print out your LionLinks page. Be prepared to fax it. While it would be best for the student to show maturity to negotiate this maze alone, if a parent is a better advocate consider going that route. Definitely get a parent's input on how to handle this before acting on the advice you get here!

And understand this going in. What's done is done. Do not have high expectations that there's an opportunity to rectify this even if they blew it. I doubt they could assemble the AdCom if they would. And I doubt they'd be inclined to fire off another admit letter if they did review the file. So there may not be anything that can happen, like it or not. I feel bad for you...but you should feel extraordinarily fortunate. Your glass is 3/4 full, not 1/4 empty!

Good luck!

D'yer--how'd you know I'd say that?? :)

Meleny, you are drowning in good luck! Exeter better get their act together or they're going to lose the chance to have a great kid like you attend their school!

Call the Director of Admissions and ask him what's going on! Call your interviewer and ask what happened. You have nothing to lose.

thanks you guys! wow you guys sure are supportive i'm going to call the admissions office soon. yes Exeter is my top choice so i'm crossing my fingers!

Good luck from another parent. I hope they do the right thing (which, in my opinion, would be to consider your application on time and, if necessary, get the admissions committee together for a special session to make a decision on it).

good luck!! I think that logic is on your side and I hope they see that it wasn't your fault at all that they didn't get your application.

Here's your one little piece of leverage, meleny:

Let us know what they do!

The lesson learned may be that next year's applicants should bombard the Admission Office with status requests instead of relying on erroneous LionLinks information. That sure won't be any fun for them!

Seriously: regardless of whether Exeter is concerned that the CC community might end up crossing our fingers saying "tsk...tsk, shame, shame!" please let us know how this gets resolved!

good luck!!!! ;)

HEY YOU GUYS.

i got rejected :(

I got an email from the adcom telling me i was rejected. they probabaly didn't have enough space, because last year i applied to exeter too and i was wait-listed, so i decided to apply again because i really wanted to go there. but this year i was rejected, which is strange, my application couldn't have been worse than last years right!!

ah well i guess its not meant to be! i think i'm going to andover now

It seems as if they don't favor students who reapply... Oh, well... You have three other great choices!

To quote D'yer maker...
"tsk...tsk, shame, shame!"

We wish you the very best...

Well.... that's not that bad of a disapopintment; you still have many other great schools to choose from. :)

Dont know if misery loves company but Lawrenceville claims it didnt receive my school transcript and recommendations on time--4 other school had no problem--Im going to Deerfield and just let it go

Indeed, it must be disappointing to hear this. Sometimes these things happen . . . admissions offices are run by humans, and they make mistakes. Exeter is expecting to overenroll this year, as that happened last year (not so much as at Andover, though . . . our 9th grade class is huge), and when they make a mistake and have you down as a late applicant, there's very little they can do when they realize you weren't. Still, as a Phillips Academy Andover student, I can assure you that fate did this because it wanted to provide you with a far superior school you might overwise have not chosen. :) Come to revisit days, and I doubt you'll feel the sting of disappointment nearly as much.
