The Lincoln at Gettysburg finally arrived at me on 2008.08.08, I am grateful for this special olympic present(though I'd be better off without it). I'm pretty sure I cannot finish reading it, so can anyone give me an overview about this book? I think I shall have some ideas about this book before discussions start. Thanks!

It's an extremely easy read.. you should be able to finish it

It's less than 200 pages. Surely you can read 20 pages a day?

Have you seen some of the comments on Facebook?

i am just going to try and write one of the essays without reading the book. i got it a month ago but it is just too boring to read. even my dad who is a lincoln fanatic said the book was truly "mind numbingly dull"

I'm going to let you in on a little secret....

You don't really need to read the stupid summer reading book.

I barely got through mine and essentially they break you up into little groups with someone to talk about the book. Most people didn't say a word and it was a joke.

PS. You don't really need to read the book.

A lot of people in my group had read the book, and some had even prepared comments. I didn't read it, and didn't say a word, but it was an interesting experience winging that essay with random quotes I picked out of the book.

ROFL. I never wrote an essay, neither did anyone in my group.

i plan to try and finish and then read the summary on bookrags.com and of course bs the essay.

do i even really have to go to the group? i dont plan on reading it or writing an essay so i figure its better to not risk embarrassing myself by not knowing anything.

don't read it. it's pointless. i bs'ed my essay and discussion. at least you guys didn't have the pickup. **** the pickup

well, I got mine TODAY! 8/13/08, which means I have a week to read the book and write the essay before I jump on the plane....

question: will they make you read your essay out loud during the small discussion groups? and you don't have to contribute anything if you don't want to, right?

i have the same question- do we have to go to the reading groups?

why is everyone refering to it as an essay? It's a short response that should be ** no more than one-two pages /b. So, write a paragraph or two and you're done..

Is it double-spaced or single-spaced?

double. you can pretty much do what you want aka write nothing or completely off topic if you insist on actually writing something haha

I'm busy watching olympic games right now so I don't have time and don't want to read that book...

@diehldun:
Can you please give me the link to those comments?

i read most of the book.. just not the 4th chapter
i thought it was a complete BORE
sorry if i offended anyone who thought it was amazing...
it just wasn't my type of preferred reading

just write your entire essay on the title or other people's perceptions of it XD

I found the book interesting; it shouldn't take more than an hour to put together a coherent half-page.
