OMGS! I Applied ED to the WRONG SCHOOL!

Again the common app says Cornell College (Iowa) ALL OVER IT!
What part of (Iowa) Next to EVERY mention of Cornell (Iowa) in the application do people not understand???

xNYer, thank you! I know, I see the same thing.
SmallCollegesFTW, terrific. I really don't care.
Reiterating, I think its pathetic. The poster should not be allowed to change ED. That's all I'm saying. Fair is fair and rules are rules.

Maybe he thought there was an Iowa County, New York. I don't know.

I get the feeling that some schools have similar names for the purpose of being confused with more prestigious schools. While applications being confused is probably only a marginal benefit, the benefits to alumni would be great.

I lol'ed.

..I'm a terrible person. But ... troll? Because I even knew the difference, and I'm not applying to any Ivies.

When you filled out your HS transcript request what address did you write??

Ummm...Cornell College pre-dates Cornell U and was first to use the name.

Not in Ithaca

Other common confusions:

Wheaton College (IL), Wheaton College (MA)
Trinity College (CT), Trinity University (TX)
St. John's College (MD, NM), St. John's University (NY), St. John's University (MN)
Carroll College (MT), Carroll College (now Carroll University, WI)
University of St. Thomas (MN), St. Thomas University (TX)
Xavier University (OH), Xavier University (LA)
All kinds of Wesleyans (OH, IN, NE, CT, IL, and more)

Perhaps its best to apply some place with a truly unique name, like Gustavus Adolphus.

Assuming that this post is serious, it's not that big a deal. You just contact the school right away and ask to withdraw your application. Most schools have written information about what to do if you wish to change your ED status prior to any decision being rendered.
It's ridiculous for people to suggest that you are going to be somehow obligated to attend because of this mistake. They are just having fun with you.

The big problem is that they actually missed Cornell University's EA deadline of Nov.1st.
At this point there is no way to call CU and ask them to consider their EA application. That mistake would be trully embarasing if CU found out.
Now they are stuck going RD. Their chances just went down from a 34% EA admittance to 19% RD admittance rate.
Unfortunatelly this is a serious post.

^but terribly funny...i would even venture that it's closer to hilarious.

Cornell Applicants Still Don’t Know How to Apply to Cornell > Admissions, Cornell, Cornell College, wannabes | IvyGate

What would be funny in a good and bad way is if you dont get accepted to cornell college ED

Sucks, but you should've been more careful.
Just email them and withdraw your application.

To be honest, If you straight up tell them. I do not want to attend this university. They will simply acknowledge that in your folder. They will not accept you lol. Might as well tell them no need to make a decision because I never considered Cornell College anyways.

That will do the trick!

Does Cornell College even have EA or ED?

Oh man that sucks. but it's a hilarious story to tell your friends.

Actually, this thread made me do a little research on Cornell College. It seems really cool. One intense class every three and a half weeks, professors only teach one class at a time, 4 day breaks each month...

^ Same here. It looks so pretty to boot :)

hhahahahahaha...wooowwww

And maybe if you twist it around enough, maybe an employer might confuse it with the ivy league cornell.
