On buying textbooks

Hello, should I buy all my textbooks before class? Is it a necessity? Or should I wait until I start my first class?

Where do u recommend I buy the books? Is it okay to buy second hand?

I would wait until you have attended the first class. After your first semester, you will have a better feel for what classes you are sure to stay in, but for now you might add and drop classes as you see what they are like. It is definitely OK to buy second hand or even use book rental services. You can save a ton of money, and they can get them to you fast.

I really thought by now all the textbooks would be on e-readers and hopefully a lot cheaper. Alas, not yet.

I buy almost all my books from Chegg or AbeBooks - if a professor emails you before classes have started about homework or the book, you should buy it

Great point, @emma996. A lot of profs do contact students before the first day of classes. I think the only reason to hold back would be if you know before even starting that you are on the fence about staying in the class and are just waiting to see what the prof is like, the material, whatever. If the class is required or you are otherwise certain of remaining in the class, I agree with you 100%.

Tulane bookstore will price match.
