Looking for some advice... I am planning on applying to Michigan NYU Carnegie and Columbia... to audition, I live close enough to drive to Ann Arbor and Chicago. I look to also fly to either NYU or Carnegie to audition instead of in Chicago, and then just do one of the two in Chicago and maybe a walk-in or two. With this said, what school is more important to audition on campus for, nyu or carnegie? My friend auditioned on campus at carnegie and got accepted. NYU is my first choice school. Parents say they will only let me fly to one of them. But which one do I pick?!

NYQ12, no one auditions for NYU on campus. I think there are some West Coast auditions for NYU, but everyone else (to my knowledge) auditions for NYU at Chelsea Studios (or at another studio of NYU's choice) in New York City. But the auditions don't happen on the actual campus, or in an actual NYU building.

I would also tell you that it honestly makes NO difference if you audition on campus at any school or not. As long as the school offers off-site auditions, they intend to take kids from those auditions.

My D did a lot of her auditions at the NYC Unifieds and I am very happy and proud to say she was admitted to a large percentage of the schools to which she applied. In fact, she did one of the schools (Penn State) as a walk in and got in with talent money.

I know kids that got into many of the top programs at Unifieds.

I highly recommend using Unifieds as a way to consolidate auditions and to save money that you would otherwise spend traveling all over. I recognize that some people have a different opinion, but this is what worked for my kid.

Have you been able to visit either NYU or CMU in the past? If so, I might consider auditioning for the school you have not visited on campus and the other a Unifieds (or another off campus audition site if the school does not attend Unifieds).

You may also consider auditioning in NYC for both schools.... (if NYU has an audition date at the same time that CMU is in town)... this would allow you to audition for CMU and NYU in one trip and allow you to visit Columbia if you have not been able to visit.

In general, schools spend a lot of time traveling to different locations for auditions. If they were not seriously considering applicants from those locations that would be a HUGE waste of their time and money to travel.

:)

I agree with NMR that plenty of kids get in from off site auditions so perhaps you could do your auditions at Unifieds in Chicago and save the trip for visiting your top choice or choices after your acceptances are in hand.
