On-campus Banking

Does anyone know what sort of options there are on the Cornell campus for banking? I'll be opening up an account back here at home so I can withdraw money there if need be, though it's probably something I won't do very often. Anything from an ATM to an actual branch would be nice; I'm just trying to see what options I have for banking in Ithaca, preferably on campus.

Thanks :)

this is from the Class of 2012 Website regarding banking and ATM at Cornell:

* M&T Bank- The most popular student choice for banking, there are offices in Willard Straight Hall on campus, collegetown, and several around Ithaca. There are M&T ATMs everywhere there is an office, plus places like the Pyramid Mall. M&T is actually a large (top 50) bank in assests (30 bil or so)
* Cornell FingerLakes Credit Union (CFCU) - A community bank with a branch in the Cornell Store and ATMs on campus
* Tompkins Trust - Ithaca is in Tompkins County, NY, and Tompkins Trust is the local regional bank. Like CFCU, there is a branch and ATM in the Cornell store as well as around Ithaca.
* HSBC - A global bank (good for international students) with an ATM in WSH and an office across from the Pyramid Mall.
* Bank of America - Although Bank of America is a huge bank, their presence in Ithaca isn't. There is an ATM in Collegetown and a branch in The Commons, but with no branch/atm on campus, you might have to put a little extra effort into your banking.

what about Chase bank?

There's no branch in the area.

Avoid BofA - the fees are brutal when you don't use a BofA ATM. And you can't on campus.
If you already have a checking account with a bank not on campus, you can cash a check at the bookstore branch for $2 - cheaper than ATM fees these days, so bring checks with you.

There's a BofA ATM in Collegetown...but it's a pain for those living on North Campus.

Establishing an account with one of the campus banks is convenient...especially if you plan on having a job on campus. You can have your checks directly deposited to an account of your choice. However...I liked the convenience of the on campus bank, especially when I received checks from family members and could cash or deposit it. If you choose, you can close the account at the end of your time at Cornell.

i recommend bank of america for everyone coming from outside the new york (tri-state) area...

bank of america is available everywhere, and if your parents want to send you money they can just deposit money straight into your account from the Bank of America in your hometown....

if you have an on-campus job you can get your checks deposited to bank of america...

But how can you get money if there are no Bank of America ATMs on campus-- pay $1 or so to use an ATM machine from another bank?

Or you can just set up an on-line transfer of funds, which even the credit unions allow you to do.

Exactly. I wouldn't recommend Bank of America. Both M&T and HSBC have pretty good coverage up and down the Mid-Atlantic states.

There is a BofA ATM at 409 College Ave...not exactly convenient if you're not near collegetown...but it's there if you need it.

Get both an account at Bank of America and M&T. Doey. :)

How close is the Bank of America am in collegetown to the Engineering quad? I don't exactly feel like opening up another bank account.

who uses cash these days? all food places on campus accept checkcards...there is also an ATM machine inside NOYES COMMUNITY CENTER on West Campus...

The Bank of American ATM in collegetown is relatively close to the Eng Quad

I used CFCU and I never had a problem. M and T is a good one for freshman because there are ATM machines in the north campus community centers.

Believe it or not, I had to use cash quite often to buy show tickets, buy t-shirts, pay people back, etc...
