When do you think I should do an on campus interview? Any advice?

Whenever you feel comfortable. The date will have no effect on your admission etc.

On that topic, what kind of weight does Rice give to the interview?

Unless you have very strong interviewing skills go for local interview. If you mess up in on campus interview adcoms may remember it when they see your application. Interview is relevant when you raise flags (good or bad). If not, it is just an additional info for them and an opportunity for you to know more about Rice

The interview is a two way. It is an opportunity for Rice to see who you are and put a face and person to your paper application. It is also a chance for you to interview Rice, see if Rice is where you want to be for the next 4 years.

Being truthful and yourself will not hurt you.
