so are we on "wait list" housing now? so we dont have a guarantee of getting housing? WTH??!?!?!!?!?

so where are we supposed to live then?

what? where did you hear this?

Not True!!!!!!!!!!!!!

apparently the "regular" thing will come out once they receive the deposit.... we'll just have to wait at this point

ooooh ok

i thought they received it because i was able to log into my financial aid thing..which is when i found out about the housing thing

you logged into your FA online? My parents called today and they said they still have not granted money to the kids off the waitlist. did you get your package already?

A few days ago I emailed them this:

"Hello,

I was just recently admitted to NYU through the wait list. Do I need to apply for housing through the wait list application on the housing site, or do recently admitted wait list applicants get an equal chance for preferred housing as well?"

and I got this:

"Hello,

You do have to apply to be on the housing waitlist. That application is
available to you via your NYU homepage. On the bottom of the homepage
there is a housing forms link that takes you to the housing applications.
Please note that there are no guarantees that we would be able to place
you in a space however students do get placed off the waitlist depending
on the vacancies and cancellations that we receive. If you have any
further questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at
212-998-4600. Thank you.

Best,
NYU Housing"

I also called them and they said the same thing..

How do they expect us to pay for an off campus apartment if we don't get a spot? This is ridiculous. I'm thinking about not sending in my deposit now.

Is that even legal? I thought 1st year housings are 100% guaranteed?

Apparently we fit somewhere in here:

NYU > Department of Housing

Does anyone know when NYU students are supposed to know what housing they're in? Apparently people have until July 18th to cancel. And does applying for explorations up our chances?

Hey Aoibheal, does your Candidate's Reply Form say, "Housing Status: OFFERED"?

FYI, waitlist housing is handed out in SEPTEMBER! I really don't think that this is where we fit. I looked at the forms, and this seems to be for people who aren't garenteed housing, and who need to wait for a room to open up before living on-campus. I believe that all freshman are garenteed housing (this is what was told to me when I was notified that I was accepted off of the waitlist). Either way, I submitted the form last week and will let you know whether or not this is what we need to do...

atelierjpn: Yeah, it does say that. Does that simply mean that we are eligible for housing?

yea i wasnt sure either, idk why we need to pay a $100 wait list housing processing fee lmao

what if you are in this group..priority group 1 (high priority)
NYU > Department of Housing

do we have a better chance of getting our housing?

I'm not on the waitlist, but from what I understand, all freshmen are guaranteed housing if they request it, it just might mean that those who got in off their waitlist are last in line for dorm preferences.

We aren't in the dorm lottery. That is for upperclassmen. Freshman WILL get housing if they request it.

rszanto: actually, no...

"Priority Group 1 (high priority)
"Sophomore" defined as a student with anticipated 6-7 remaining semesters in housing (students admitted to NYU as freshmen in fall 2007 or spring 2008)."

for the program i got into, i graduate NYU in 3 years, or in 6 semesters, so i would only have 6 semesters of housing

so yes, i should qualify for it, right?

Aoibheal, are you an incoming freshman or a transfer student?

Incoming Freshman.

I -hope- that I get housing, but from the email it obviously says waitlist applicants aren't guarenteed housing.
