On plaid shirts, hoodies, and Nike hi-tops

If I were to visit campus wearing a plaid shirt from Urban Outfitters, a hoodie, and a pair of flashy Nike hi-tops, would people hesitate to approach me?

I'm being serious.

I would, and I’m not even going to Princeton. :D

However, I’m sure your fellow classmates aren’t as rude as I am.

I don’t see how that sort of outfit would make you unapproachable. Especially if you’re black.

I’m being serious.

^ Hey I wear that and I’m Asian.

yeah i’m kinda scared that everyone there will be dressed super preppy…
and that those who don’t will be ostracized.
=S

looks like i will be ostracized then…naw hopefully by college people dont care how you dress

Are you kidding? That would make me WANT to approach you. And I don’t think I’m all that different from a lot of the students at Princeton.

Wear whatever you want to your visit, the point it to see if you’re comfortable in the environment. Your style is part of how you express yourself so wear whatever you feel like!

However, I do remember that the campus upon first visit can be a little intimidating because I was just thinking “People that come from the kind of place I live do not belong in a castle like this” and that kind of perception skewed the way I saw the students walking around. Take the time to talk to actual students here. Most are very friendly.

Plaid shirt, hoodie, hi-tops. Yeah, I’d be afraid to approach you. You forgot to put on pants.

Looks like I also forgot to put on underwear, socks, and an undershirt.

Whoops.

My very white son writes hip hop beats:). He is at Princeton…These fears of a preppy zeitgeist are unfounded. 30 years ago, yes. Now? No.

^ Haha, that’s awesome.
