Before even looking at that data, i'm probably gonna major in the most conservative major and i'm gonna apply for housing in the three most conservative dorms. AND i'm conservative.

I guess certain enviornments and majors attract certain people with certain political views.

If you live in dorm A this school year, do you have a higher chance to be chosen to live in dorm A for next school year? Does people from freshmen to senior all have the same chance of winning the dorm lotter, or does olders students have higher chances?

You don't have to enter the dorm lottery after freshman year.

If you want to stay in the same dorm all four years, there are no other selection processes after dorm rush/hall rush freshman year. And the number of people who do switch after a semester or a year is small enough that there's no lottery -- you just apply to switch to a given dorm, and you're either able to switch or not able to switch.

Well, I'm pretty much going for Baker or Senior. Baker being a safe bet, cos I spent a lot of time there at CPW. But Senior seems more like my sort of place, but I really don't know a whole load about it. But then again, 6 and two 3s, i like all my top 7 dorms, so I'm not pushed really.

wait so....i was thinking about putting mccormick as my third choice. i was under the impression that if i didnt put mccormick or next in my first 2 choices i wouldnt be bound to rba and could switch out...is this not true? i really dont want to be forced to stay in mccormick or next- is there any way i can totally leave them off the list if i'll beforced to stay in them if i get assigned there over the summer?

buump, please someone answer my question. which was, if you didnt see, about ranking mccormick or next out of the top 2, and being committed for the whole year if that's assigned...

I'm really not sure about many technical questions regarding RBA. If you don't rank McCormick or Next as one of your first two choices, you aren't bound to RBA, but I also think they won't assign you to McCormick or Next. So if you don't want to live in McCormick, not ranking them as one or two would probably ensure that you wouldn't get in.

There seem to be a bunch of people who are thinking of Baker along with a few others. I lived here my freshman year before moving into the frat, so I'll offer my advice.

Baker has been called the "social" dorm. Now there are different definitions of social, but basically what it comes down to is that Baker has a culture that encourages drinking and hanging out at all times of the day and night. It tends to be a loud place (especially the freshman areas of the dorm).

The few people who were considering Baker and EC or Senior Haus should think about what they really want. Not saying that people can't enjoy both, but Baker is very different from those two. While both have sociable people who like to have a good time, EC and Senior tend to be more liberal free-spirit (dare I say eccentric) people. Baker tends to be more the more typical partied in high-school American Eagle/Banana Republic type. So just think about which is for you.

I stayed at both Next and Baker during CPW, and they were pretty similar socially. My only problem with Next was that it's a LOT further from campus than Baker (which is fine if you like to walk)... oh, and it does the RBA thing so you can't transfer out after Orientation if you want to move. I might be spoiled because my host at Baker had a single though... don't know about the quad thing. The quads that I saw were very nice and big, though.

A lot of freshmen in Baker do get put in quads but not most of them. Also a lot of people end up choosing a quad with three other people during in-house rush (so if you didn't want one, even less of a chance). Dorms that are similar to Baker...

I am not sure about Next because from what I knew, it was pretty quiet but maybe I'm wrong. I would say certain floors of BC, Simmons, and Bexley.

Bexley may not be similar in the dorm sense but has a fair amount of people similar to Baker. I always think of Bexley as split into two types of people. The thing with Bexley is that it is not the best place for freshmen to meet each other. It is, however, a GREAT place once you already have your core group of friends.

it's possible that many freshman in Baker will be put in coffins this year

(coffins are very small rectangular singles)

other than that you'll probably get a front or back double on the first floor (front is better), a back double on any other floor, or a triple/quad on any floor

If you want a single you have a decent chance of getting one but it will be small, if you want a double you will get one if you win a coin toss, and you'll get a good one if you're lucky, or you might get a triple/quad -- the quads at Baker are big and very cool though, most people end up liking them

What I meant by Bexley is like Baker is that a lot of the upperclassmen at Bexley are people who came from Baker (mainly the girls). This makes the Bexley environment a mix of the commonly thought eccentric Bexley and a Baker-type dorm. There are also similar rules at both regarding partying (as in there aren't many).
