Hi, all. This is my first post. I have been lurking on this thread for awhile now, but now that my D is ready to apply to schools, I am wondering what’s up with Baldwin-Wallace. I only see ONE acting professor listed on their web site. Is that possible? Other MT schools have so many more. I don’t think one person is enough…don’t they need more than one point of view?

Sure hope I posted this in the right place!

I am pretty sure Scott Plate the assistant head of the program teaches acting too but it is not in the acting section on the website he is towards the top because he is the assistant head. I think Vicky the head also does stuff with acting especially Acting Through The Song courses.

Thanks! So I see one acting professor listed, and then Professors Plate and Bussert also do some acting instruction (part time, I assume, since they are running the program)? I guess my question is, is this enough? It seems that some of the other programs have 8 or more acting professors listed for similarly sized programs. IDK, but it seems to me that acting is the most important component of all of this. And having one FT professor and 2 PT professors for acting seems a little sparse.

I don’t mean to be critical…just trying to figure out whether to keep this school on our list.

Baldwin Wallace in a BM not a BFA. I believe it is more music focused than some other programs.

That made sense to me…that maybe it is the difference between a BM and a BFA. But I just checked Oklahoma City University’s BM in MT. They have 6 full time acting professors. So I’m not sure that the BM versus the BFA is enough to explain it. Maybe the paucity of acting professors at Baldwin Wallace is specific to Baldwin Wallace? It doesn’t look like BW has a straight acting/theater major, so maybe that’s the difference.

BW does have a straight theater program, it is just non audition. It has 3 different tracks to it and the acting choice is an acting/directing track.

I don’t know the optimal number for teaching faculty, but from what I’ve seen BW is doing a good job with what they have. My D is interested in their program and since we are in OH we’ve been to a couple shows and they were both well acted. Of course they have a great repution as well so I suspect others like what they do too.

Okay, at the risk of beating a dead horse…have any of you watched the YouTube clip of BW’s Henry IV the Battle of Shrewsbury? would love to hear others’ comments.
