Hi everyone. I submitted my application a few weeks ago and mystatus is “in review”. I am ONE person away from auto admit (7.1 %) and was wondering if that has any effect on my chances… SAT score is 1340 GPA 3.8 UW and I have good EC/essays/letters of rec in my opinion. I’m applying for public health in CNS. Any related admission acceptance/rejection stories or just knowledge on this situation would be appreciated!! Thank you!
Public health should be an easy in for you because it’s easy to make with your stats. GL
Thank you for the quick response. I read that UT considers all CNS major applicants the same, but I thought that seemed unlikely
No, they do not consider all CNS major applicants the same. There are definitely harder/easier majors to get into with the toughest one being CS. I have not heard that public health is extraordinarily difficult to get into so good luck to you. Do make sure you apply to other schools as well because every other public school would be a safety for you.
Based on the scoring of applications that we know about (could be out of date), your rank is considered along with your SAT score and your extra curriculars etc. Assuming your major does not fill up with auto admits, you will still have a pretty good shot. You just don’t have a guarantee. Apply to other schools as @GTAustin recommends.
Also many public health grads go on to grad school. You may want to consider schools where you can get scholarships for undergrad and that have good grad school placement. UT is not known for great scholarships.
Thanks for the response! I would definitely try to find an undergrad school where I could get scholarships but I actually have my undergraduate tuition paid for due to the Texas Tomorrow Fund (thanks mom and dad). So that’s why I’m set on UT as it meets the requirements to be completely paid for. I’m hoping to go on to graduate school which means I’ll be on my own money wise… but if I could go to Texas and then to Dell that would be amazing! Also, who doesn’t love Austin?
