One B+

I am attempting to transfer to Harvard. I am currently a freshman and this past semester I received all As, except one B+ in my area of study that I hope to major in at Harvard. I did everything to try and get this moved to an A-, appealed the grade, etc. Essentially, the situation was that the final exam was near impossible and the professor knew that. My B+ was the highest grade in the course and the lower division courses for said department. The average was C- to C. Will this B+ devastate my chances? I am fearing that it will.

My other thought on this matter is that after my professor saw my distress with the situation, he spoke with the chair and ex-chair of the department to see if there was anything that could be done. He offered to write a letter of recommendation for me and include in it an explanation of this grade, basically that mine was of excellence. Would it be wise to proceed with that? I am really stressing over this situation. Thank you.

I’d say yes to your question about the prof writing a letter on your behalf. How effective this will be depends in part how difficult your current school is perceived to be.
